Minutes

Note: These minutes were taken by Charles. They should be read in conjunction with the minutes taken by Jan, and the minor corrections to Jan's minutes.

Issues for Techniques documents

Icons

JR I think that people will come up with Emmanuelle's and I would prefer not to have those.

JB should we take more feedback on those and go through another design phase? We have a graphics person.

JT like these because they are small enough and easily distinguished.

JR background colours help too.

CMN need much more saturation in Jan's colours.

JR need not to lose black lines.

Action JB take icons to graphics guy.

JB looks. icons are smaller - can they be any bigger?

CMN there is a page that shows what the layout looks like

JB how much bigger can they be

JR depends on icon size

Checkpoint 3.4 vs 2.2

JT seems to be general agreement that 2.2 should have an exception to allow for meeting 3.4

Resolved: Accept CMN's proposal 3.

//geeze joins

WL most important area is to get companies onto AU.

Techniques for conversion tools

JT any disagreement to add these?

HS I don't know enough about tools to have an opinion

JR Not sure about inclusion of checkpoints for 1.4

CMN Tools like HTML transit provide templates to put content into.

JR There is a fuzzy line between generating content and having templates

CMN right, but we need to cover both cases

JR If all techniques apply to all tools it isn't very helpful.

discussion about whether the icons are supposed to apply to all useful techniques for a tool type.

JR I think we should have a dedicated call to identify which techniques fit which categories.

JT meeting on the 14th?

CMN Do we need to hold up publishing?

JB don't want to be putting stuff on the TR page without it being good enough, on the other hand there is a problem of not having published.

JT meetings for 7th, 14th - who is available?

HS, JR.

Techniques from 3.3 to 1.4

JT Everyone agreed

Rewording of "required" in techniques

JT No argument on that

Adding priority / conformance

JT Everyone agreed

Next year

JB There will be a new staff contact starting from start of next year. Probably in next few days will be posting a job opening for combined AU/User Agent staff contact job. We expect some gap in staff support.

JT We will be asking for group patience and support.

WL Where will you be going?

CMN I don't know

JB WAI PF and some other stuff

JT CMN will you still be a member of the group

CMN Probably some.

FAQ

CMN This is meant to be useful to people who want to know what the group are doing. It will need work to be so. At the moment it looks like an FAQ for ATAG 1.0 (which is what it was based on).

JB I don't think that there has been an FAQ for a first public draft at W3C before. The feedback on the first FAQ is that it is too dense.

JT Who is primary audience?

JB There are 3: Developers, Press, General community, including advocates trying to argue from it, etc.

CMN It is there, we can work on it or throw it away, but if it is good it would be worthwhile. As Judy says, it needs a lot of work.

JB Where is this on the priority list? My guess is it needs a lot of work, and documents should get cleaned up first.

JT Looking at schedule, should get document out first, early January, then get a FAQ together to have some perspective

JB Key information can go in an announcement

JT Even if we get it in a basic form it would be helpful.

JB Question on wombat. Was missing clearly documented issues list - are people comfortable with what' there? NB, uri in announcement is wrong. Could people look at this before Wednesday?

Next meeting 7 January.
