Submitted Materials

We, W3C Member(s) Names of Submitting W3C Member(s), hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following document(s) attached hereto:

  1. (Title of document 1)
  2. (Title of document 2)
  3. (Title of document 3)

which collectively are referred to as "the Submission". We request the Submission be known as the (nickname) Submission.

Abstract

(Explain for the public the purpose of the Submission)

Intellectual Property Statements

(All Submitters (W3C Members) and other Authors of the Submitted documents MUST provide the required information regarding copyright, trademark, patent licensing, liability and warranty terms. We provide REQUIRED terms for copyright of all Submissions; we provide additional REQUIRED and RECOMMENDED terms for Submissions that may be used a contribution towards a W3C Activity. Failure to provide the REQUIRED terms and the character of other terms will affect the likelihood of a Submission being acknowledged and/or used as a contribution within a W3C Activity.)

Copyrights

REQUIRED
[Submitter/Author] hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any [Submitter/Author] copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

If the Submission is meant to be incorporated into W3C work, then add:

REQUIRED
Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, [Submitter/Author] grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. [Submitter/Author] further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.
OPTIONAL
Should the Submission not be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, change control of the Submission shall remain with the Submitters/Authors.

(The last two blocks of text are intended to satisfy the Process Document requirement to answer this question: "What mechanisms are there to make changes to the specification being submitted? This includes, but is not limited to, stating where change control will reside if the request is acknowledged.")

Trade and Service Marks (if any marks identified)

REQUIRED
The Submission request or Submission refers to the following trade and service marks (registered or not): (enumerate the marks, ownership, and terms where known).

If the Submission is meant to be incorporated into W3C work, then add:

RECOMMENDED

[Submitter/Author] agrees that the trade and service marks that are associated with and identify this specific Submission (enumerate the marks) will be governed by the W3C Trademark and Servicemark License .

Patents

REQUIRED for W3C Members
The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee [agrees or does not agree] to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.
REQUIRED for non-Member Authors
The organization I represent as a contributor to this Submission [agrees or does not agree] to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

(The Director MAY acknowledge the Submission if the answer to the licensing commitment is either affirmative or negative. The Director SHALL NOT acknowledge the Submission if one or more Submitters (or others who provide patent licenses associated with the submitted document) do not supply the required statement. For more information about disclosure requirements, see section 3.3 of the W3C Patent Policy.)

Required proprietary technology

(This section is used to answer this question from the Process Document: "What proprietary technology is required to implement the areas addressed by the request, and what terms are associated with its use? Again, many answers are possible, but the specific answer will affect the Team's decision." This entire section may be omitted if no proprietary technology is associated with the use of this technology. If there is proprietary technology that is being disclosed, then be sure that the relationship between the disclosure and any licensing commitments is crystal clear.)

Suggested action

We suggest that the Consortium (hold a workshop to discuss the Submission | start an activity according to the included draft activity proposal, etc.)

To help with this work, we expect to be able to provide (no resources | one non-resident document editor | financial assistance, etc.) to the Consortium.
