SVG2 Editing Process

From SVG

Proposed process for editing the SVG2 document:

  • We decide on one or two main editors for the document.
  • For each new feature that we end up having resolved on including in SVG2, after the prioritisation process we will go through soon, we assign an owner.
  • The main editors will have the authority to make any editorial changes to the document they see fit without informing the WG.
  • Features owners will have the authority to make any substantive changes to their features they see fit without informing the WG at the time they make the changes. If they wish to do so, they can of course. However, at the least, feature owners should summarise for the WG the substantive changes they have made prior to the document being published as a Working Draft.
  • For parts of the specification that are not covered by the features, the main editors will have the authority to make any substantive changes they see fit, as long as they inform the WG. It may be that some substantive changes would warrant discussion and explicit approval before the change is made. This is left to the discretion of the main editors.
  • Any substantive changes by the main editors that are made unilaterally and announced to the WG after the fact can be objected to by other WG members, at which point the change could be backed out or discussion held on how to resolve the issue.
  • WG members who raise issues on the document and propose a solution that involves substantive changes can go ahead and make the proposed change themselves if there has been no objection or alternative view raised on the mailing list within three weeks.
  • By virtue of the fact that publications are made by consensus of the WG, when it comes to publish the document as a Working Draft, it should be free of objected-to changes. It is up to individual WG members to be aware of the contents of the document.
