Update! In addition to the Nokia 3650, the prize now includes
the BitFlash SVG Tiny viewer, compiled for installation on the 3650, and a
copy of the recently released Beatware e-Picture Pro 4.0
Mobile SVG authoring software. In view of this, the closing date has
been extended from 3 November to 24 November.
Announcing the first official SVG Mobile Competition. Nokia have
provided a 3650 tri-band GSM handset as a prize for the best SVG Mobile greeting card.
What do we mean by greeting card? It's really up to
you! It could be a birthday card, a funny cartoon
story, a demonstration of the power of SVG - whatever you
want. We're intentionally leaving it open in order to
give you as much freedom as possible. Here is your chance to
be known as the first SVG champion.
Competition details are as follows:
-
Design an SVG greeting card in a single
SVG file. The SVG file must must be
SVG Tiny
compliant. You can reference images, but they must be local (ie. in
the same directory) and included with the submission.
The total size of the submission
(SVG and image files) must be less than 30K. You can compress
the SVG to SVGZ.
-
You may enter as many times as you like.
-
Send your submission as an attachment to member-svg-competition@w3.org. If you used multiple files, please send a single zipped archive.
Include
your name, a description of yourself, your organization (if appropriate), a description
of your entry, the method you used to create the
entry (eg. handcoding, which authoring tool you used), a
link to your details/homepage (if possible). Upon first
submission, you will receive an automated response requesting
your approval to archive the submission on the W3C Web
site. You are required to accept that request in order to
enter the competition.
-
Entries are due 24 November 2003.
-
Entries will not be publicly visible from the W3C Web site
before the due date. However, you are free to make your entry
available yourself. At the end of the competition, the W3C will
make a page of the best entries. Be listed as one of the first
SVG gurus!
-
By entering you grant W3C the right to use your entry in
promotional material (eg. on a page of competition results).
W3C will only use the entry with appropriate attribution.
-
Entrants must have permission to use any content
(e.g images, vector artwork, logos, trademarks) they include in
their submission.
-
The prize is one Nokia 3650
tri-band GSM Handset, plus one binary Nokia Seriess 6 installation of the BitFlash SVG Tiny viewer
for Symbian and one licensed copy of BeatWare e-Picture Pro 4.0 for Windows.
The winner will be chosen by the SVG Working Group, whose
decision is final.
-
W3C reserve the right to change the terms of
the competition at any time by posting details
on this page.
-
The judging criteria are intentionally vague. We are
looking forward to being impressed by whatever you can
come up with. Here is a list of things we'll be looking
for:
- Is it a good demonstration of the SVG Tiny features?
- Would the entry run well on an SVG Tiny device (not too complex)?
- Is it visually appealing?
- Is it original?
- As judges, the individual members of the SVG Working Group are not allowed to enter. However, employees of SVG Working Group members are allowed to enter, but their Working Group representative will not be able to vote for the entry.
- The winner will be announced on 15 December
This is the first in a series of SVG competitions we will be running
over the next few months. Each competition will have a slightly
different theme. We have a collection of prizes from different
industry sponsors to give away, so watch this space!
