This 'Device' section finds the W3C sadly still oblivious of the opportunity
to integrate sensor-rich mobile devices into the web.  What is wrong with
"generic"?!  The standard should enable barcode readers, accelerometers,
thermometers, RFID readers, ... to be invoked from web clients. See

It's only an early draft, primarily intended for video conferencing use cases. I would be very interested in examining other possible uses for it, though, that's why it's designed to be extensible.

What would be most useful here would be implementation experience — if a browser vendor could implement <device> and test it with barcode readers, accelerometers, thermometers, RFID readers, etc, we could see whether it's a good design.
