This is an archived snapshot of W3C's public bugzilla bug tracker, decommissioned in April 2019. Please see the home page for more details.
This issue was originally reported by XML Schema WG. R-22 says "The dataypes spec has some inconsistencies with IEEE with respect certain special values ...". It continues "Are +0 and -0 the same value?" Further, the F&O discusses both positive and negative zero as arguments to functions that accept float and double values. In some cases this is required by backwards compatibility with XPath 1.0 functions such as "round". This item was mentioned in the meeting of 2003-09-18 (http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2003/09/xml-schema-ftf-minutes.html). This item was discussed (and phase-1 agreement was reached) in the meeting of 2003-09-18 (http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2003/09/xml-schema-ftf-minutes.html). This item was discussed in the meeting of 2003-10-16 (http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2003Oct/0049.html). This item was discussed in the meeting of 2003-10-17 (http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2003Oct/0071.html). This item was discussed in the meeting of 2003-11-21 (http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2003Nov/0050.html). This item was discussed (editors noted that they had long ago proposed wording) in the meeting of 2004-04-29 (http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2004May/0006.html). This requirement was discharged by the adoption of a change proposal in September 2005.
Having traced back through RQ14 to R22 to insure that the original was indeed about float and double, I conclude that the original request has been met by text in the LCWD, and no objections surfaced during the comment period for that WD. Therefore I'm closing this bug.
