Description Silvia Pfeiffer 2015-02-22 10:22:33 UTC
These lines can be moved down:

"
If the writing direction is horizontal, then the line position percentages are relative to the height of the video, and text position and size percentages are relative to the width of the video.

Otherwise, line position percentages are relative to the width of the video, and text position and size percentages are relative to the height of the video.
"

I tried moving them, but these paragraphs talk about the influence of writing direction on the interpretation of line position AND text position. Splitting them to spread them into those two sections wouldn't make things clearer, IMHO.
Comment 2 Philip Jägenstedt 2015-02-25 06:20:57 UTC
I found an unrelated problem close by: https://github.com/w3c/webvtt/pull/174
Comment 3 Silvia Pfeiffer 2015-03-08 11:08:53 UTC
We could turn these into notes, seeing as this information is duplicated later on?
Comment 4 Philip Jägenstedt 2015-03-09 10:24:16 UTC
AFAICT it's not given in any detail later, it just says "to be interpreted as defined by the writing direction" and similar things.

So... I don't know. Maybe moving it into the later sections would be an improvement even if it duplicates the sentence structure.
Comment 5 Andreas Tai 2015-03-22 15:40:45 UTC
From my view it makes sense to split it up and move it further down. Note that it has to go as well under "size". For writing direction an informative note maybe sufficient as the interpretation of writing direction does not depend on the other features. The text of the note could be something like "Please note that the computed value of writing direction does affect the interpretation of text position percentages, line position percentages and size percentages".
Comment 6 David Singer 2016-10-11 16:55:43 UTC
We think we should replace this normative text by a note that says "Note that writing direction affects the interpretation of line, position, and size" and then these two paragraphs should be placed correctly to define position, line and size. as they *use* writing direction to give meaning to a value, i.e. they are not about writing direction per se.
