This is an archived snapshot of W3C's public bugzilla bug tracker, decommissioned in April 2019. Please see the home page for more details.
I wanted to validate a html file by using http://validator.w3.org/file-upload.html. I checked "Show Parse Tree". All other settings were left to default values. When I uploaded the file (which I'll upload to this bug as well), I got an error message: Software error: This shouldn't happen at /usr/share/perl/5.8/Text/Wrap.pm line 64. For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([no address given]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. The file is named/stored locally at: /home/alexander/Desktop/Bilder/eBay Auktionsbilder/! VORLAGE mit EMMA, w3c konform v2 !.html
Created attachment 398 [details] Deeply nested file This file causes the validator to barf, when "Show Parse Tree" is checked.
This happens also, when the "URI" interface at http://validator.w3.org/detailed.html is used. To check, go to the URL listed above - ie. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FBugs%2FPublic%2Fattachment.cgi%3Fid%3D398&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&sp=1 This makes the validator check the previously attached file.
Looks like newer Text::Wrap versions than what's installed on validator.w3.org don't help with this issue, so I added a workaround'ish fix for the next validator release: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-validator-cvs/2006Feb/0024 Verification: http://qa-dev.w3.org/wmvs/0.7/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FBugs%2FPublic%2Fattachment.cgi%3Fid%3D398&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&sp=1
