Description Jim Melton 2005-09-25 19:05:03 UTC
Do we want to add system relative operator defaults? Do we want to add "closer
and "farther" to FTDistance for novice users who do not want to enter specific
numbers of intervening words, sentences, and paragraphs? Similar relative
defaults might also be added to other operators which call FTRange and score
weighting.

Raised by Dana Florescu at Redmond Face to Face Meeting on July 15, 2005.

The Full-Text Task Force has discussed this issue and has decided that, although
the described functionality would be useful, it is not going to be provided in
the first release of XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Full Text. It will be considered
for any possible future version of XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Full Text. This
statement must not be interpreted as a commitment for any future version of
XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Full Text to be created.

If this resolution is unsatisfactory, please reopen the bug and provide a good
rationale (preferable with a well-thought-out proposal!) for asking the Task
Force to reconsider the suggestion.
