Since RFC 1766 is now obsoleted by RFC 3066, we would like to submit that the XMLSchema spec. needs to Correct its language to parallel that of XML 1.0 (in the latter's reference to RFC 1766 "or its successor on the IETF Standards Track") thus dragging in RFC 3066. Correct its language pattern according to the syntax defined therein, namely value="([a-zA-Z]{1,8})(-[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,8})*" See: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xml-schema-comments/2002JanMar/1069.html and http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xml-schema-comments/2002JanMar/1092.html
The WG resolved this at the May f2f, deciding to instruct the editors to draft erratum that substitutes 3066 for 1766, formulate an appropriate pattern and references the pattern instead of XML 1.0 2nd edition. Proposed text: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2002Jun/0019.html Text approved at June 14 telecon: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2002Jul/0009.html Erratum E2-25 added.
