Go over proposed SC bullets in the analysis spreadsheet

maryjom: Go over SC we skipped first

1.4.2 Audio Control

maryjom: I drafted potential notes on this SC as in Closed Functionality products, there is no conflicting audio with a screen reader, so having a separate audio control is not needed.

maryjom: General agreement that there should be a note.

1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)

maryjom: Copied notes we had for non-text contrast for this SC.

laura: Wonders if we should have something on the fact that offering a high contrast mode doesn't supercede the need to support minimum contrast.
… do we need to add some notes that offering a high contrast mode is a best practice.

mary jo: I don't think we need to add anything on best practice. It's actually a general WCAG thing. Any website could offer a high contrast mode or support the Level AAA contrast requirement.

olivia: There is the concept of alternate conforming versions. Do we need to build that in anywhere?

mary jo: I think this is built into the conformance requirements, and WCAG2ICT covers that in the document already.

1.4.4 Resize Text

mary jo: I added in notes about how this is handled in the EN 301 549 and 508

laura: I think something needs to be added regarding screen size and the ability to support larger text in that context.
… The line thickness of the font also affects readability of the content, so the other standards' treatment doesn't address anything but the size of the character. People can't easily read thin-lined characters.

mary jo: WCAG2ICT may not be able to say anything about this, and whether resizing alone is sufficient for usability in closed products, but it could be a comment on the EN 301 549 that gets submitted.

<LauraBMiller> Should focus on functionality not prescriptive for size and resize.

LauraBMiller: Suggests we do not make any references of how this SC was treated in the EN and 508.

Topic 1.4.5 Images of Text

maryjom: We already have content, and it seems sufficient as-is
… others in the meeting agreed.

Topic 1.4.10 Reflow

mary jo: Reads out the suggested text explaining the problematic nature of applying this SC to closed functionality.

LauraBMiller: This is an example where it's clear that this SC shouldn't be applied to closed functionality.

LauraBMiller: May get rid of the "essential" caveat (last sentence), as we're talking about the fact that this SC shouldn't be applied.

LauraBMiller: Having the SC seems to infer that sometimes it may be applied.'

1.4.11 Non-text contrast

maryjo: Left the text unchanged from what we developed and consensed on before.
… agreement to leave it as-is.

1.4.12 Text spacing

maryjo: This is another SC that really shouldn't be applied - highly unlikely closed functionality software is not implemented using markup languages, and highly unlikely to support modification of text spacing.

LauraBMiller: Agree and we might want to be clear that this shouldn't be applied to closed functionality software.

1.4.13 Content on hover or focus

maryjo: Reads comment that closed functionality software is unlikely to ever have hover content.

LauraBMiller: Thinks instead that this SC should be relevant - even though it would be rare to happen.
… doesn't think this should be listed as "problematic" even though it doesn't happen much.
… suggests we have no note in the SC problematic for closed functionality.

LauraBMiller: My thinking...Does applying this SC break when applied to closed functionality?

2.1.1 Keyboard

<LauraBMiller> The SC points out in a note that Keyboard actually talks about keystrokes/input functions. I believe this applies when looking at the keystrokes/input functions.

<LauraBMiller> This applies to Focus, not the physical keyboard

Mary Jo: Reads out definition of keyboard interface from WCAG - thinks that they are only referring to actual keyboards.
… and virtual keyboards.

mary jo: we'll need to discuss this as a larger group I think.

mary jo: That wraps up the SC we hadn't discussed previously. On 21 June we will go through all of the proposed notes in column K. Please be prepared ahead of time by reading them and be ready to suggest changes.
