jamesn: we have some known technical problems in the field of data visualization.
volkerevery uses wanted to have different view. and it is difficult to have a strivt structure tapping order anything of that nature. may be we have some way to use ARIA method to do that. how to do that, dont know.. but lets dicuss that
jamesn: I know that apple is using some API such as stocks chart which has some extension to enable some data to expose. that might be one path to go along.
aaron: have some some work on this. I have soe proposal on teh table which is more like asynchronous, where you do not need to render all the data.. such as google map.. it is possible to API to render some data queries and respond with the data. we need to start with basic kind of chart to get it going. we have available schema for the starter.
jamesn: when we talk about API, need ot make sure that it is for general purpose
jamesn: as long as it is not direct API, it should be okay.
volker: we should be thinking about a11y as usability in general terms. lot of people do not understand the data. we need to think of making data usable for everyone
Greta: when we talk of DV, are we talking about individual pieces of data, or a comprehensive model.
volker: two pronged approach is right approach. you want to see the dynamic change of data. when you have changes in data from logarithmic scale to linear or vice versa, people should be able to see that
Aaron: it is kind of hand wavy, we started with google doc which has problem with the view.. actually you have part of document in view. It has all kind of feature such grammer, suggestion etc.. we have so much mark-up underlying. you do nto see all the info on google doc view but you see on server. how about having an API which allows web pages to communicate its capabilities view third party queries which can link the web page to schemas .
jamesn: its a big ask for At
Aaron: whenever the web pages wants to make it accessible, the content gets loaded into the tab which has to serialize itself. we need to implement some kind of schema which can send it to browser based upon specific request.
Aaron: Vispero wants us to work on this. I think if industry can go to this direction.
jamesn: sounds like we have gone too far than the data visualization.
Aaron: pages are getting heavier with the web components. we have some bugs where thousands of nodes need to be serialized on the blinks. then they nee dot be send to screen readers. it takes significant amount of time.
aaron: too may bottle neck with the current technologies to make it accessible.
Greta: at WP we use visualization to tell a story. what you are proposing could be great longer term solution. but if you see at higher level what value can we give readers now would be something to look.
PG: two pronged approach could be useful. how do I provide some sort of commonality to the users. we made a slack channel and working on this problem for long time but no solution to provide to the users about the data info. we look for multi dimensional data.
PG: what are data points that we are looking for.. if we can look into these use cases would help. we cant make progress for wide audience until we address the issues of understanding the information provided in data.
PG: I need to deal with vendors and most of the time we use hacks to get data info. we need to solve in problem of hackiness. want to make sure that we could see some sort of involvement or movement happening.
FE: I agree with Aaron and other in-regards of tech limitations. this issue needs to be investigated before we talk about a specific solution. we have immediate need when it comes to the requirements.
FE: DV has great history where we can talk about individual piece of it in terms of interactive capabilities. we can build some examples, use cases.. ask database community to get involved and ask them helping in creating examples

FR: big problem is web components and data base components.. you are required to provide a summary which is kind of difficult unless you have a significant technological intervention.
EW: appreciate these different perspective. My interest is allowing all users to abe able to manipulate data and understand the relationship and impact of that manipulation.
EW: it is personal mission to be able to make it available for people with disabilities in terms of providing them opportunity for employment.
we need to think short, mid, and long terms goals
EW: open questions aboutoverall security and how can this be used beyond even detecting the things that we should probably go through.
SH: we do not have something right now which can help communicating in multi dimensional way
sh: if we could define some sort of association such as aria attr or something which allows users to get the meaning of information .. don't want to give super long accessible name of description
SH: I was working on a tool which use AI to surface trends and info in data
aaron: we have different approaches.. one if rely on web page to summarize what their data says. and also assumes that the web page can figure out a summary fo the useful data which is dynamic.
aaron: advance solution would be to provide a mechanism for the community at last give it to describe schemas for different charts for AT to disccover those schemas and to query them
sh: when we develop hat sort of vocabulary try to match it not it to semantics if we also consider consumption, not just by the current AT but by any tool that could consume data.
aaron: I am against it because of the performance issues. but I am also against it because I dont think aria is a good place to solve this problem.
FE: In terms academic perspective and their interest, we should continue to work upon it. there is a huge requirement in education domain.
jamesn: what are we going to do next. perhaps setting a group that can discuss further. not an ARIA issue but we need to look for technological solution to address this. we can facilitate for further discussion.
volker: may be in next meeting we could come up with some examples.
