new work on glyph streaming

KenLundeAdobe: we had a team building mtf and persa raised the topic. gave a bigger audience in the team. No action because of holidays but then will be a business decision. Handles fonts with huge number of glyphs. Decide whether to participate and contribute, sometime mid Jan
... levels playing field, good for customes, unclear for companies

vlad: preliminary approval to not be bound by IP considerations if activity goes forward, will contribute implementation experience

RSheeter: need approval from higher up

vlad: (explains RF IP commitment)
... we haven't heard anything from the mozilla fols. Windows has a native API

KenLundeAdobe: Cn't see any vendor turning this down, especially for asian fonts

vlad: fine line between native browser support and polyfil implementations
... avoids duplication of calculations already done in the browser

<KenLundeAdobe> This CJK Type Blog article demonstrates what Adobe's solution can do (the fonts being served include 65,535 glyphs) → https://blogs.adobe.com/CCJKType/2015/06/typekit-dynamic-kits.html

KenLundeAdobe: (explains above link. dynamically augmented fonts)

(works in at least Chrome and Firefox)

<RSheeter> Very cool!

Vlad: last call this year, start again in January

<RSheeter> also prefer 10

KenLundeAdobe: no new info from Adone before 10 Jan

Next meeting is 10 January

(adjourned)
