title: Accessibility DPUB Task Force Weekly Meeting

Adding Alternative Media

Deborah: I will be leaving O'Reilly in a couple of weeks. I think I will have more time, and be an invited expert with the W3C. I am not in control of this but Markus and Ivan says it shouldn't be a problem, but I will have to change my email address.

Tzviya: DPUB are going to take a break for a couple weeks after the F2F.

Adding Alternative Media

As a publisher of accessible content, I need to add content such as a

braille style sheet, image descriptions, or video captioning (text /

descriptive audio) to a PWP previously published by a third party.

  Braille

There is an important difference between just sending the raw text to a braille display which will translate the text to the default braille grade and language the braille display is using and having a pre-formatted braille rendition using a specific braille table.

        Example

As a socially minded publisher creating a Math textbook, I wish to include my math equation examples in Braille as well as MathML since not all reading systems fully support MathML.  I learn that Nemeth Braille is primarily used and have added separate preformatted Nemeth Braille examples in my publication.

Deborah: So this is a use-case type. Its hard for me to comment from since my understanding of Braille is limited.
... , I don't think "socially minded" is needed. you are a publisher wanting to fulfill your legal oblications.

tzviya: take out "learned that"
... , I think its good but needs some more word smithing. This will become 9.2.1 adding Braille

charles: Personalized Experience was discussed last week but I didn't see much work on this.

tzviya: we don't want to focus on dyslexia but expand to other areas.

Deborah: I believe that was on my plate but am not sure with everything going on I didn't get to this.

Tzviya: lets move on to Section 9.3 Assisted Reader Technology
... , that should be Assistive.
... , work with full package not with just specific files.

Charles, Why are we adding in "Reader / Reading?"

Tzviya: I think we can just have Assistive Technology"
... , As a user of assistive technology, Yolanda / Ulga / Mario wants to perceive the full PWP. (Diverse names :)

tzviya: we need some examples.
... , AT must jump from TOC to we should look at our A11Y Note with W3C gaps and use these examples here.

Charles: in the spirit of the 4th of July & Canada Day we will cut this meeting a little short.
