<Behnam> agenda Status review of action items from previous meeting
<najib> Hi every body and happy new year!
Hi and happy New Year, Najib.
<scribe> Scribenick: mostafa
Behnam: Let’s keep this one a short meeting. Do a quick touch base until next week that we have everybody in the meeting.
<Behnam> ACTION-24: Start drafting arrangement and joining behaviour
<trackbot> Notes added to ACTION-24 Start drafting arrangement and joining behaviour.
<Behnam> close action-24
<trackbot> Closed action-24.
Behnam: Shervin and Waseem told that they don’t have any updates for their actions.
<Behnam> https://www.w3.org/International/groups/arabic-layout/track/actions/open?sort=owner
Behnam: Action-24 and Action-41 are for Mostafa
Mostafa: Action-24 is already
done and merged into the document.
... Action-41 is not done yet, but I’l have an initial draft
next week.
Behnam: Action-40 is for Richard.
<Behnam> ACTION-7: Provide additional text for the section "fonts and typographical considerations" based on discussions on the mailing list and irc
<trackbot> Notes added to ACTION-7 Provide additional text for the section "fonts and typographical considerations" based on discussions on the mailing list and irc.
Richard: I haven’t worked on this yet.
Behnam: Action-7 and Action-32 are for Najib.
Najib: Action-7 doesn‘t have much
update from my side. I have added some markup, but haven’t put
it in the GitHub yet.
... You can close action-32. It’s already done.
Behnam: Re action-32: it’s already in the spreadsheet?
Najib: Finished the translation, but not the transliteration yet.
<Behnam> Draft Glossary: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nSxYKQm_mKroCmxU4fyJ-g70Eo1_mF89yHZg8YNOuzc/
Richard: Najib, I started doing
some of the transliterations. I corrected a couple of
things.
... Like using an “o” where there was an “a” or “u” or
something like that, but I’d like you to continue on this.
Najib: Do you want to continue or do you want me to continue?
Richard: It’s up to you.
Behnam: One point regarding translitarions: did we agree on using different transliterations for different languages?
Richard: Yes.
<r12a> http://r12a.github.io/pickers/arabic/
Richard: Najib, you could continue transliteration by just adding vowels and using my picker tool.
Najib, do you still need some help for understanding GitHub? I did write some documentation.
scribe: Shervin saw it and thought it was good.
Behnam: I had a quick look too.
Richard: We can send it to Najib.
<Behnam> ACTION: Behnam to review the Github intro guide [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/01/12-alreq-minutes.html#action01]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-42 - Review the github intro guide [on Behnam Esfahbod - due 2016-01-19].
<r12a> ACTION: Richard to send github information to Najib [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/01/12-alreq-minutes.html#action02]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-43 - Send github information to najib [on Richard Ishida - due 2016-01-19].
Richard: I’ll send it to the list.
<r12a> https://www.w3.org/International/groups/arabic-layout/
My third question is whether we should move the homepage to the GitHub too?
scribe: That way it would be easier to edit the homepage.
Behnam: Yes. It works for me. That would make it easier to edit for me.
<r12a> ACTION: Richard to move task force home page to github [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/01/12-alreq-minutes.html#action03]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-44 - Move task force home page to github [on Richard Ishida - due 2016-01-19].
Richard: The URL will change, so it will be redirected from W3C server to the new URL.
Richard: Shervin was going to
move the spreadsheet to the GitHub.
... Is he still doing that?
Behnam: Yes. There is an action item for that.
https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues
Behnam: Let’s just focus on the
active issues and don’t review the ones that we’ve already
decided to push back.
... Richard, do you want to talk about #22, variant letter
shapes?
Richard: Shervin said that he’ll add some explanations to the document. So, I guess we should keep issue open until we have that text.
Behnam: Should we close issue #21? Is that a dup of #16?
Mostafa: I suggest adding a comment concluding the issue before closing it.
Richard: Agreed with Mostafa.
Issue #21 was about whether we ant to do the transcription or
not. And we decided that yes, we do that.
... So we can close #21 with a comment with that conclusion and
talk about transcription schemes in #16.
<Behnam> "Font and typographical considerations" Draft #15
Najib: We can close issues #15 and #9. Both are the same.
Mostafa: We should keep one until we’ve merged the text into the document.
<r12a> +1 to Mostafa
Behnam: +1
... Closing #15.
<Behnam> https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/13
Mostafa: Issue #13 is a place for an ongoing discussion.
Richard: Regarding #13, Mostafa, we had a discussion about quotation marks.
Mostafa: Yes, I’m not going to hold a strong idea here. Doesn’t matter to me which way we go (using quotations literally or using spans). So I was going to send a PR implementing your idea.
<Behnam> https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/3
Behnam: What’s your idea about adding an “ongoing discussion“ label for labeling discussion-only issues?
Mostafa: +1. We can also have a
“future” label for the issues that are not active right
now.
... Issues #3, #4, and #5 are to be added to the sctions that
are not being drafted right now.
... Issues #3 and #4 belong to first section of the third
chapter: “Alighnment and Joining Behavior”.
Behnam: Does “future” mean not including the version 1.0?
<Behnam> https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/8
Mostafa: We can just mean “future” as something we don’t want to review actively now.
Richard: +1
<najib> +1
Mostafa: We can create milestones for categorizing issues into the ones for the first version and future versions.
Behnam: I’m creating milestones now.
<Behnam> Open issues for the First_Public_Draft milestone: https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+milestone%3AFirst_Public_Draft
Behnam: What is the status of #8?
Mostafa: We are waiting for Shervin to build the tables out of CLDR.
Behnam: We covered most of the drafting status through action items and issues.
Najib: Arabic Representation Forms characters are sometimes useful and can be used to work around some problems.
Behnam: These have always been deprecated in the Unicode standard.
Richard: Agreed to Behnam. And we
should not use them, because using them breaks data.
... So I guess it’s worth having something to talk about them
and say that they should not be used.
Behnam: Chapter 8 of the Unicode has a good explanation of encoding issues and we can add a note about it.
<Behnam> ACTION: Behnam to write a paragraph to reference to the Arabic Script chapter of the Unicode Standard [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/01/12-alreq-minutes.html#action05]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-45 - Write a paragraph to reference to the arabic script chapter of the unicode standard [on Behnam Esfahbod - due 2016-01-19].
