Status update of A11Y DPUB Note

Charles: I really liked your idea for metadata with an accessFeature of LongDescriptionsNotPresent and will bring this up to Madeleine and the schema.org
... gave update on epub3.1 work being done and schema.org new features AccessMode / AccessModeSufficient / AccessFeatures for Media Overlays / sync speach.
... George suggested putting in a new AF for LongDescriptionNotPresent which would be a great idea, Charles will bring this up with Madeleine Rothberg and the schema.org folks.
... waiting on Markku for Assessments probable in Jan.
... Implemented George's Diagrammar and added it to the Note

Kathy: I sent a message to public list

Charles: We didn't get that message

Deborah: send the message to me and I will fwd to the list
... We will connect with Ivan to make sure Kathy can post to the list.

Kathy: I can paste the notes
... , tasked to review the MAUR document. Not sure why I can't paste the notes in here
... , suggestion on MAUR document maybe organized by disability, but too short to do that so I recommended that action needed/not needed and type of feature: pagination / layout as a sub semantic list head, audio, user customizable, …
... , subset of master features. Then mentioned that the Appendix is a little disjointed. I read Diagrammar, looks very cool.

Deborah: we are not recommending anything, we are just adding text telling the W3C that you should know about this and it is an information appendix. We are planning on adding links to the other pieces. same idea with the Markku's Assessments will also be as an appendix.

Kathy: ok this makes sense. and agree now that it does belong in the Appendix.
... , we are making a reader for IOS/Android and are using Readium.
... , everyone please look at the organization is popular then I am happy to reorg the doc and give it an edit and smooth out some points.
... , as I get use to working with this group I will hold off until you let me know when to make an edit.

Deborah, if you get a use pull requests it makes it really easy to do merges.

Deborah, I think we should look at the email you sent and then give you the OK to do the major restructuring of the document.

Mia: update. I haven't got to my items, I am willing to give up ownership of one. I think I have 3.

Deborah: there are some items which I would like Mia/George to do since a screenreader would be ideal. You have Pagination,

Mia: with Pagination we have to refer to other work being done, and other specs.

Deborah: annotations we just said no action needed the Annotations WG exists and just make sure they are aware of what we need
... , This one is a big one scholarly and page # is important and is a big deal.

Mia: yes I need time to figure this out since it is big.

Deborah: positional location of text. this is not a big deal and
... no action needed all use cases are in css (more research needed)

Mia: maybe after holiday I can get to Pagination

Kathy: Mia if I can assist you, I know about this from mobile reader position, we can get together after the new year I know our devs have done pagination twice now and it is a tough topic and I can share with you.

Mia: I am out for next 2 weeks.

Kathy: me too. I can get your email and connect 2nd week of Jan.

Mia: that will be great, thanks

Deborah: location of text I can take on if its just to say more research needed.
... , escapability/skipability is done and I added a lot of words around that, and its mostly done. clarified what we already done, and added a lot of use cases for a number of different things. I think the main thing that needs work before we call ourselves done is the pagination thing. Because everything else is pretty, except for the assessments appendix from Markku Hakkenin.
... , we still don't have, the why diagrammar is important… but we need why does the W3C care. The fact that Diagrammar is here why does W3C care about this in here.
... , in terms of W3C standards what should we say about Diagrammar.
... , Maybe we need to restructure the Appendix on Diagrammar/Assessments etc.
... , we need an Appendix for EPUB. and that should go first.
... , here is work being done outside of the W3C in digital publishing
... , the short summary of the spec should not be there.

<dkaplan3> The appendices should cover major open specifications which are not in the W3 but of which W3C digital publishing people need to be aware. Arguably this should include EPUB.

<dkaplan3> The Diagrammar section does not need the whole in the diagrammar body/in the head components, which basically describe the specification,

<dkaplan3> what it needs to be is: Diagrammar serves these use cases. It is being developed by this group. W3C digital publishing and accessibility communities need to know about it because Reason.

Charles: I will take on the rewrite of this section for Diagrammar
... , Maybe Tzviya can take on the EPUB appendix new section.
... , Deborah is going to wordsmith the placement of text section
... , Mia and Kathy will get together in the New Year to work on Pagination
... , Kathy will send Deborah who will forward to our group who will review this document and get back to Kathy on her proposals for the document restructuring.
... next meeting Jan 8th at same time. Deborah will be available for first 1/2 of the meeting.
... , I will also be connecting up with Markku Hakkenin regarding the Assessments appendix and will send him what I write up for Diagrammar as what we are looking for for this other work being done outside of the W3C which we need to be on our radar.
