Recap from Sapporo

The Discovery and Provisioning break out at the Sapporo face to face focused on the technology landscape. We now plan to move our materials from the assorted wiki pages into a GitHub document, and we are looking for volunteers to help with that.

<Soumya> http://www.w3.org/2015/10/30-wot-di-minutes.html

This is the minutes from the break out session. We have a presentation by Helena from the MMI WG. They are interested in semantic based discovery.

We talk for around 40 minutes on that, and asked for their input to our landscape study.

The minutes include links to the MMI use cases, and discover requirements.

We then talked about provisioning, something that is in scope for this task force.

Soumya notes that we should start further discussion on provisioning in December.

Jaime introduces himself. He is familiar with lightweight M2M and wonders if you can describe the connection to CoAP resource discovery.

Soumya: we have already looked at that. We’ve classified discovery into six broad areas. The CoAP approach can be considered as a resource directory model.

Technical Landscape study

Soumya: Arne and I have been working on fleshing this out.

See: https://www.w3.org/WoT/IG/wiki/Tech_Landscape_Evaluation

Soumya asks if we think we should keep the 8 dimensions for comparing different approaches.

He asks for a volunteer to help with classifying HyperCat

Jaime: I could help with IPSO (I co-chair their group with Michael)

Soumya: would you be willing to give us a presentation on that?

Jaime: it is essentially about a distributed approach to resource directories.

Soumya shows us the wiki page on tech landscape and discovery categories.

https://www.w3.org/WoT/IG/wiki/Discovery_Solutions_Iot_Consortia

Jaime: IPSO haven’t define any new ways to discover resources.

Soumya: we’re trying to understand which consortia are using which discovery techniques.

Jaime: most ISPO partners are using CoAP and your category 3 (searching in directories)

Soumya: we need to start filling out the tables, and particularly categories 2 and 3 in preparation for our next call.

Jaime offers to prepare somethong on CoAP and Reload

Arne: what’s the plan for the GitHub document?

Soumya: the plan is to complete work on the wiki by the end of this month and then set up a GitHub document.

I will send a pointer to the task force when it set up

Soumya thanks everyone for attending the call.
