<trackbot> Date: 25 March 2015

Google holds kuettel , RSheeter

<scribe> scribenick: ChrisL

Vlad: thanks for the review comments, kuettel

recent spec changes

kuettel: looking for one change ....

Vlad: will upload new version after the call
... made the change you suggested in email
... edited the font collections part, did you see?

ChrisL: JKew and i were not that far appart, sure it is fine
... I was fine with Jkew's suggestions

Vlad: second para of section 5.4

<khaledhosny> Hi

ChrisL: changes in 5.4 look good to me

close action-166

<trackbot> Closed action-166.

close action-167

<trackbot> Closed action-167.

Vlad: several editorial notes that need to be addressed
... when to send the iana registration?

ChrisL: when we publish this draft for wide review
... I can send in the registration request

Vlad: (updates draft in realtime to cvs)

<khaledhosny> I’m still trying to figure out how to configure my SIP client

ChrisL: needs a changes section

evaluation report

Vlad: kuettel has an open action on mobile performance
... next chrome is instrumented?

kuettel: chrome 42 waiting to reach stable for large scale collection. we have some early data
... maybe make another action item, need to measure decompression times* speeds, also the ram useage
... so we should make a new action

<scribe> ACTION: RSheeter to measure ram useage for woff2 vs. woff1 [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/03/25-webfonts-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-168 - Measure ram useage for woff2 vs. woff1 [on Roderick Sheeter - due 2015-04-01].

ChrisL: currently we have just handwaving on ram useage
... (summarizes RE changes)

kuettel: half the gain is from preprocessing, and cff does not get any of that

Vlad: cff is itself compressed

kuettel: brotli still does a better job, similar to ttf on that step

Vlad: data is already packed

<scribe> ACTION: ChrisL to explain cff compression has no preprocessing so less gain [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/03/25-webfonts-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-169 - Explain cff compression has no preprocessing so less gain [on Chris Lilley - due 2015-04-01].

kuettel: would like to see the same font in cff and tt/otf to do some a/b comparisons

Vlad: can tell you that on average cff is about half the equivalent tt glyph data

kuettel: yes but after compression
... the cff corpus was larger but maybe it has larger coverage

Vlad: also depends on degree of hinting of TT outlines

resolved: publish WOFF2 with edits discussed

resolved: publish WOFF2 evaluation report with edits discussed

(unanimous)

charter

Vlad: charter expires soon

ChrisL: charter announcement will go out tomorrow, we have 2 more years

Vlad: hope conformance tests will not take that long

RSheeter: khaledhosny is here!

(welcomes)

<kuettel> Whoohoo!

face to face

Vlad: we did play to meet at atypi this year
... this is ot 14-17 in sao paolo

http://www.atypi.org/atypi-sao-paulo-2015-2013-call-for-presentations

kuettel: there are local google offices we might be able to use

Vlad: should i ask the conf organisers
... also the tpac meeting in Sapporo japan

26-30 oct

ChrisL: unlikely to meet 2 weeks later

Vlad: unles atypi does not work

are we shooting for before or after atypi?

Vlad: we wore wondering about a CTS kickoff meeting during the end of sprig

<khaledhosny> I think I lost connection

Vlad: will sumarize aditional CTS statements in spec
... we need another review cycle

some may need to be reworded, a few are a bit vague regarding testing

ChrisL: maybe in Boston, will be there start of june.

week of 8 june is good for me

kuettel: last meeting was very productive

RSheeter: working on tests already done and ones needing review
... if it says "the same as woff1" we can use the woff1 tests

ChrisL: yes

kuettel: khaledhosny any sense on how far throughin terms of initial tests?

<scribe> ACTION: RSheeter to give estimate of initial number of tests started [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/03/25-webfonts-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-170 - Give estimate of initial number of tests started [on Roderick Sheeter - due 2015-04-01].

Vlad: once we enforce due dates then it is formal

<khaledhosny> ChrisL: woff1 tests that are still applicable to woff2 have been mostly ported

(adjourned)
