trackbot, start meeting
<trackbot> Date: 16 August 2012
<scribe> scribe: rubys
<Wilto> Mat Marquis here; just dialed in.
<mjs> Zaki, who is making noise?
<Wilto> Muted.
<Wilto> I’m 482, yeah.
<Wilto> …Wow that’s a clever little bot.
action-220?
<trackbot> ACTION-220 -- Paul Cotton to work with Matthew to get an editor's draft submitted to the WG for proposed adaptive image element -- due 2012-08-16 -- OPEN
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/actions/220
<Zakim> adrianba, you wanted to report on ACTION-220
adrian: Matt has been working on
a draft for this, good progress, not quite ready, can we extend
this for one week?
... the other thing we are looking for is a location to put
this into... mercurial?
mjs: thanks
action-220 due in one week
<trackbot> ACTION-220 Work with Matthew to get an editor's draft submitted to the WG for proposed adaptive image element due date now in one week
mjs: progress is being made, no action taken
mjs: none
... still one outstanding tracker request
ISSUE-206?
<trackbot> ISSUE-206 -- Should HTML5 have a meta generator exception to the alt requirement? -- open
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/206
call for consensus completed, we received additional proposals, and a hit for more
<Zakim> MikeSmith, you wanted to communicate a11y TF position on issue 206
mjs: background: this was as a result of a reopen request; the question is whether or not to replace it
mike: it does seem like there is
one part that we do have consensus on; I don't think anybody is
advocating keeping the meta generator exception... it may be
that a call for consensus would pass and move a decision on
that and that change could be applied
... we could deal with the additional attribute as a separate
issue
... from the TF side, our preference is that the chairs split
the issue and progress on the part that we do have agreement
on
mjs: the chairs will take that
under advisement
... any more comments on 206?
issue-30?
<trackbot> ISSUE-30 -- Should HTML 5 include a longdesc attribute for images -- open
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/30
mjs: we are expected updated
change proposals by august 17th, from the author of one change
proposal we got input that no change is required; the a11y tf
requested more time
... on advice of W3C mgmt, we are keeping the schedule
judy: laura agrees that
additional time is needed, and I will be providing additional
information on what information was Jeff was presented with,
and based on the continued discussion on 204, we do not feel
that the discussion is mature there, and confirm our need to
clarify parts of issue 30 statement, and I will be sending out
a written request for additional time
... in addition, there is a problem that the chairs imposes a
change on another working group without any discussion with the
other working group, so there is a possibility of a formal
objection
... so: just a heads up that you will be getting a written
request
mjs: just a piece of advice: we are more likely to be sympathetic to an extension request that is specific; part of the reason for the previous decision to hold to the schedule is that the previous request lack specifics
judy: the overall schedule is at
risk due to 204; with request for specificity, I believe that
other extensions have been granted with less
justification
... we intend to write a preamble and to address the types of
misunderstanding that we have seen
mjs: I continue to stand by my position that you will get a warmer reception if you identify at least one specific thing you need to update
judy: I have nothing further to add
mjs: anything further on issue 30?
mjs: none
mjs: none
mjs: none
issue-204?
<trackbot> ISSUE-204 -- Exempt ARIA attributes from the rule that prohibits reference to hidden elements -- open
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/204
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0159.html
mjs: we discussed how this
relates to issue 30
... further discussion on 204?
laura: how will this affect issue 30?
mjs: as both proposals allow hidden, there likely won't be a huge difference
rubys: there is an impact to the schedule; given that laura and others request holding on the survey on 30
laura confirms that she would prefer holding off on the survey on issue 30
issue-189?
<trackbot> ISSUE-189 -- Prefix convention needs to be coordinated with IETF -- closed
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/189
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0157.html
mjs: additional discussion by Julian; the current status is that we will be open to a reopen request when we have actual new information
julian: plh has suggested discussion on the i18n discussion and got input from stpeter and others
<mjs> ietf, not the ietf w3c policy
ISSUE-195?

mjs: two items open on this: ted was going to provide feedback on aria-roles... ted?
hober: I didn't finish it on Friday, and have been in the CSS F2F this week; will dig myself out of my email hole
mjs: the other open point was the restriction on elements; we need confirmation from the person who brought it up that they want this addressed
ted: this seems like an area of wide agreement, we just need to nail down the details
ISSUE-206?
<trackbot> ISSUE-206 -- Should HTML5 have a meta generator exception to the alt requirement? -- open
<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/206

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0172.html
mjs: status is that Rich asked to table this to HTML.next; and the chairs have indicated that we will only do that if everybody agrees to remove their proposals; Rich is on vacation, and we have asked Frank if he want to withdraw his proposal
frank: I'll happily postpone this to HTML.next
mjs: can you also toss that into email, if we have consensus to postpone, we will go forward with that
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0188.html
mjs: in a number of cases this
represents text that was in bugzilla, in at least one case
there is significant new text
... discussion?
mjs: I posted an email with two
possible ways to define the exit criteria, and significant
discussion has resulted
... discussion?
... no discussion... I encourage people to look at the
thread...
... it will be up to the WG to make a recommendation to the
Director, and this will significantly affect the schedule, and
this will affect the charter.
... any other Other Business?
Sam will likely be the chair
mjs: I encourage people who haven't done so before to volunteer
ted: I can scribe
mjs: thanks
