Description:

HTML5 video and audio tags should support continuous streaming as is common in traditional television and radio broadcast channels. This might be a single segment continuously encoded that has no defined length.

  1. This must work for both adaptive and non-adaptive codecs.


Motivation:

  1. Support for linear broadcast television programming and continuous streaming over the Internet.

What needs to be standardized

  1. One or more methods need to be defined for specifying continuous monolithic media streams.
  2. A method for a consistent time base must be developed in order to support ad insertion, synchronized media, etc.
