  • EPUB(HTML+CSS) as platform for publishing
  • The current latest specifications already let us use a certain level of e-pub documents with Japanese layout.
  • However, there is no (free) stable implementation for the latest specs

ACCESS様:

  • 出版プラットフォームとしてのEPUB(HTML+CSS)
  • 現状の最新仕様にもとづいて，ページ区切り等を含め，一定レベルの縦書き表示が可能
  • 最新仕様に対応した安定実装が存在しないため，WebkitおよびChromeのソースコードをもとに，独自に電子書籍リーダを開発

Newphoria's opinion:

  • (Very) Big fonts for advertizing etc.
  • Restriction based on hardware: number of characters, resolution, display size, etc.
  • Difficulty of Japanese text layout on a big display, e.g., concatenated multiple displays as a huge display

  • 広告用途には，大きく美しい文字フォントが必要
  • 様々な仕様の機器が混在: 表示可能文字数，解像度，ディスプレイの大きさ，など
  • 特に，大きなディスプレイ(例えば，複数のディスプレイを並べて，一台の巨大なディスプレイとして仕様する時)で日本語テキストを表示する難しさ

  • Generates a Web page including various text provided by costomers
  • Very difficult to justify the starting point/ending point of characters in a line nicely
  • Actual style depends on device resolutions...

  • 新聞社から提供されたテキスト，一般顧客から提供されたテキストを整形してレイアウト
  • 行頭を揃える等，日本語縦書き/横書きのテキストを「かっこよく」整形するのは困難
  • デバイスごとに異なる解像度に依存するスタイル

  • Generates various printed matters: magazines, novels, picture books, dictionaries
  • Issues with quality of text layout and fonts.
  • Really would like even more beautiful layout :)

  • For further modification, it would be important to consider spacing (inter-character/inter-line).
  • Also, Ruby for pairs of Kanji (Juku-go) is important.
  • How to deal with text layout space is important.
  • Stronger collaboration with SVG (as vector graphics for signage service) would be useful, e.g., SVG fonts, animation
  • さらなる改善(より美しい表示)のためには，行間，文字間のスペース調整や，熟語ルビ等に関する検討が必要
  • (大画面における)レイアウトのための空間制御のメカニズムが必要
  • 例えば，ベクトル画像としてのSVGとのより柔軟な連携(SVGフォント等)が有益では
