ITS oriented review

<fsasaki> yves: some activity - martin is looking at MIME type issue

<fsasaki> felix: good to have martin's eye on this, he is very engaged in IETF

<chriLi> Hi Yves - neither the US nor the France number work for me ... :-(

translate attribute in HTML5

<fsasaki> no new infos on this

other formats to target

<fsasaki> christian: about DITA

<fsasaki> .. specialization thing is one main feature of DITA

<fsasaki> .. allows you to derive your own DITA flavor

<fsasaki> .. you can compare it to XML - it allows you to create your own "formalism"

<fsasaki> .. in translation tools, pre-defined configuration things are delivered for DITA

<fsasaki> .. situation is that this covers only plain vanilla DITA

<fsasaki> .. one idea is that if one could create ITS rules that could mimic the specializations with DITA

<fsasaki> yves: what would the technical part be - how would you derive specialized ITS rules?

<fsasaki> christian: not sure yet

<fsasaki> felix: probably an XSLT adaptation task, to make sure that ITS information is kept during the transformation

<fsasaki> christian: next step - will write this up and send a mail to the list

rules repository

<fsasaki> nothing new

ITS general issues

<fsasaki> Christian was to ask expert(s) about how to use RDF directly

<fsasaki> christian: one data category was about context - generalized locNote

Context data category: http://www.w3.org/International/its/wiki/IssuesAndProposedFeatures#Proposal:_.22Context.22_data_category

<fsasaki> christian: might tell people - if you need to provide information as the following, use rather RDFa than ITS

<fsasaki> ACTION: felix to talk to RDFa WG about "context data category" mechanism [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2011/05/24-i18nits-minutes.html#action01]

<fsasaki> next proposal - locale specific content http://www.w3.org/International/its/wiki/IssuesAndProposedFeatures#Proposal:_localeSpecificContent

<fsasaki> yves: somebody would ask "why don't you use xml:lang directly"

<fsasaki> ACTION: christian to update the "locale specific content" text so that it reflects the difference to xml:lang [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2011/05/24-i18nits-minutes.html#action02]

<fsasaki> http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6067

<fsasaki> This document specifies an Extension to BCP 47 that provides subtags

<fsasaki> that specify language and/or locale-based behavior or refinements to

<fsasaki> language tags, according to work done by the Unicode Consortium.

<fsasaki> felix: above is definition for "u" extension, that itself refers to locale data markup language (CLDR, Unicode consortium)

<fsasaki> .. might be useful to add to wiki

<fsasaki> yves: next - permissions for inline code

<fsasaki> .. currently being discussed in XLIFF, waiting for the outcome to decide who it relates to ITS

<fsasaki> yves: next - transliteration topic

<fsasaki> .. consensus is that it needs to be a different data category

<fsasaki> felix: good design principle not to add things to existing data categories, otherwise conformance (currently focused on local versus global ITS only) gets difficult

<fsasaki> ACTION: christian to turn the discussion surrounding the "transliteration / NLP content ..." into a new item on the wiki page [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2011/05/24-i18nits-minutes.html#action03]

aob

<fsasaki> yves: have an action item to write blurb about m4loc tool, will do that later

<fsasaki> scribe: fsasaki
