Info Share

richard: today, after 2.5 days work, I released the first public preview of...

<r12a> http://qa-dev.w3.org/i18n-checker/

richard: and you can see it in action

<r12a> http://qa-dev.w3.org/i18n-checker/index?docAddr=http%3A%2F%2Frishida.net%2Ftools%2Fi18nchecker%2Ftest.php&async=true

richard: with the above test page
... rewrote logic and all text is all new and is now externalized (so can be localized)
... in other news, just noticed that HTML chairs have a survey on Issue-88

<r12a> http://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/40318/issue-88-objection-poll/

richard: we should all respond to that

<scribe> ACTION: all: respond to Issue-88 survey on HTML-WG at http://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/40318/issue-88-objection-poll/ [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/06/23-core-minutes.html#action01]

Media Fragments

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-core/2010AprJun/0153.html

addison: maybe time to update charmod-resid
... think they are confused about what an IRI is

david: may be confused about what utf-8 is?

Date and Time Issues in HTML5

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/member-i18n-core/2010Jun/0002.html

addison: any objections to this text?

richard: let's send it on

+1

<scribe> ACTION: addison: forward date-time proposal to HTML WG [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/06/23-core-minutes.html#action02]

Bidi

aharon: so far no action on bidi yet this week
... need to complete my notes
... synopsis on dir=auto
... two things dicussed
... 1. word count method
... should it be simplified?
... should modify to count chars instead of words
... with coefficient based on ranges
... so some scripts could have higher weights than others
... doing work to reasearch coefficients based on real data
... 2. proposal to support multi-paragraph text
... where UBA uses first strong char in a para could assign
... direction could be assigned
... and user could have several paragraphs, say in a text area
... such as a review in which description is in arabic but say an address is in latin text
... display of content in a <pre> perhaps
... owe a description of this
... since then have personal serious doubts about this capability
... think others share this concern
... might be hard to make work well??
... also use case might not be pursuasive?

addison: text areas just send a string with \n in the middle

aharon: yes, maybe dump and set direction per graph/line
... without affecting dir of element
... use case is problematic
... may not be a text area but rather a rich text control

addison: rich text not that important since not html
... question if UBA can't just apply, since \n triggers UBA would set dir without respect to container

aharon: not just <pre>
... but CSS can make that happen with any element

<scribe> Addison leaves the call

next steps:

1. aharon write up summary of second day of workshop

2. aharon begin editing the Note with the new information

3. start firing of bug reports to the HTML folks
