Comments from Web Apps WG review
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/actions/pendingreview
closing editorial pending actions
not reviewing open actions
mez: starting the review
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/open
mez: deadline is tomorrow for
comments from WebApps
... going top down
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/227
mez: "user agent" inconsistency
http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#robustness-apis
mez: this is the section we asked
them to review
... using the word "browser" in this section
... should we generally replace "browser" with "user
agent"?
yngve: don't see a problem at first pass
mez: action should be to change "web user agent" to "user agent" and "browser" to "agent" except in the definition.
<Mez> action anil to amend "web user agent" and "browser" as above
<trackbot> Created ACTION-624 - Amend "web user agent" and "browser" as above [on Anil Saldhana - due 2009-09-30].
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/227
mez: "top level web page" definition
<jvkrey> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#definitions
yngve: probably he is referring to 4.2 section
mez: not inclined to make the
change here without more expert vouching of this
suggestion
... yngve -- can you and ana discuss this and come back to
us?
yngve: we need to make sure we are specifically talking about the top frame of the document -- maybe include a mention "in case of framed documents"
<Mez> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-usable-authentication/2009Sep/0000.html
mez: "chrome" -- I don't think it is good to make small exceptions like this without a good reason -- reviewing actual email now
I think he is confused about chrome in the context of a web app versus chrome in the context of the web user agent. We are only concerned about the latter
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/227
mez: more on issue 227
... do we need a definition of chrome?
ygnve: we are talking about mainly the primary user interface
<jvkrey> javascript:alert("obscured!");
mez: I think by chrome we mean both primary and secondary visual interfaces -- what do other people think?
referring to section 7.2
ygnve: secondary user interface
will usually popup over all content
... I am fine with saying chrome refers to non-content portions
of the primary and secondary user interfaces
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#common-widgets
mez: leaning towards saying we use chrome to mean both primary and secondary user interfaces
<Mez> action tlr to specify that chrome refers to both primary and secondary ui
<trackbot> Created ACTION-625 - Specify that chrome refers to both primary and secondary ui [on Thomas Roessler - due 2009-09-30].
mez: make an editorial action and give this to Thomas
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/227
mez: widget
yngve: this term is also used in user interface terminology
mez: we have already discussed this -- we should leave it as is
ygnve: no strong opinion -- we might add a parenthesis further defining (referring to user interface component)
mez: unless there is a firm proposal let's not
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/228
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#robustness-apis-obscure-security-ui
discussion of whether "must not" in 7.4.1 should be upper case
mez: think this is editorial
ygnve: yes
steele:+1
<Mez> action anil to make change in issue-228 (upcase)
<trackbot> Created ACTION-626 - Make change in issue-228 (upcase) [on Anil Saldhana - due 2009-09-30].
<jvkrey> change the by/for also?
steele:+1 all around
<Mez> action anil to change "for" to "by" in last paragraph of 7.4.1
<trackbot> Created ACTION-627 - Change "for" to "by" in last paragraph of 7.4.1 [on Anil Saldhana - due 2009-09-30].
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/229
mez: issue 229
<Mez> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-usable-authentication/2009Sep/0001.html
mez: in 7.2. do we talk about a chromeless mode?
ygnve: we have a number of exceptions -- e.g. mobile devices
steele:he may be referring to 7.1?
mez: ask for clarification?
... any concrete proposals?
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/229
ygnve: needs more clarification
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#sec-tls-indicator
mez: discussion widget signing -- need for indicator
steele:what is the relationship between "user agent" is for WebApps WG and "user agent" for us? It is not clear that one is a subset of the other
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/track/issues/230
mez: anyone familiar with
BONDI?
... it is possible that commenter is giving an example of
something that would fall under the SHOULD NOT clause of
7.4.2
<Mez> http://www.w3.org/2006/WSC/drafts/rec/rewrite.html#sec-tls-indicator
<discussion on installing software>
ygnve: mean a more permanent embedding of the executable code? (cleanup please)
mez: what about file apis? why is writing files to the disk not the same as installing software?
ygnve: needs to have some way of associating it with execution
mez: let's not change the document -- just reply in natural language
<Mez> pick up at "Why can't the user agent simply ignore these attempts?
<Mez> "
mez: thanks for coming!
