<trackbot> Date: 22 July 2009

<shepazu> scribenick: smaug

<shepazu> scribe: Olli Pettay

shepazu: we are all awesome

MSjacob: smaug: the new draft looks reasonable

<dand> howdy

<shepazu> http://dev.w3.org/2006/webapi/DOM-Level-3-Events/html/DOM3-Events.html

<shepazu> there you go, dand

<dand> cheers

shepazu: some of the events needs the be defined better, as per the comments sent to the mailing list
... I'll add some more diagrams, for example about mouse events handling

<dand> um, can't hear you all of a sudden

<dand> yeah, just done

smaug: I haven't commented about mouseenter/leave

shepazu: they just went in
... need to sort out when mouseenter/leave actually happen
... DOMFocusIn/Out are deprecated

<shepazu> http://www.quirksmode.org/dom/events/index.html

shepazu: MSjacob to test DOMFocusIn/out vs focus/blur

<shepazu> ACTION: MSjacob to test DOMFocusIn/out vs focus/blur [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2009/07/22-webapps-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Sorry, couldn't find user - MSjacob

<shepazu> ACTION: Travis to test DOMFocusIn/out vs focus/blur [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2009/07/22-webapps-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-386 - Test DOMFocusIn/out vs focus/blur [on Travis Leithead - due 2009-07-29].

MSjacob: there is no such thing like beforeblur/beforefocus. Should there be such thing?

IE has focusin which happens before focus changes

MSjacob: though, IE hasn't capture phase atm

ISSUE: resolve case of focusin in IE

<trackbot> Created ISSUE-92 - Resolve case of focusin in IE ; please complete additional details at http://www.w3.org/2008/webapps/track/issues/92/edit .

MSjacob: there is need for relatedTarget to know where the focus is moving from

<scribe> ACTION: shepazu to add relatedTarget to UIEvent or to some new interface (for focus handling events) [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2009/07/22-webapps-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-387 - Add relatedTarget to UIEvent or to some new interface (for focus handling events) [on Doug Schepers - due 2009-07-29].

<scribe> ACTION: smaug to test focus handling in gecko [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2009/07/22-webapps-minutes.html#action04]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-388 - Test focus handling in gecko [on Olli Pettay - due 2009-07-29].

DOMActivate vs. Click

shepazu: it seems to me that only firefox has implemented DOMActivate
... where else is DOMActivate used

http://www.w3.org/TR/2007/REC-xforms-20071029/#evt-activate

shepazu: svg might mention DOMActivate too
... what implementations use it and who relies on it and what are the use cases
... what content relies upon it
... I'm also concerned about a11y
... I'd like to invite comments about DOMActivate
... click is also pretty abstract
... I'll contact the WAI folks

yes

composition events

<shepazu> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-dom/2009JulSep/att-0010/compositionevent.txt

chaals: I agree, DOMFocusIn/Out/Activate could be deprecated

<MSJacob> Dan's composition events mail: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-dom/2009JulSep/0010.html

shepazu: I didn't know whether to add/use composition event or text events

do we need the cursor position data?

shepazu: maybe a property .compositionTarget to the event?
... what kind of range could we add to the event?

dand: can say that composionstart is fired before composion really starts
... so that cursor/focus can be moved to another place

shepazu: for now we develop this in D3E, but if it gets really complicated, may need to move elsewhere

<shepazu> ACTION: Dand to write up details of compositions selection and sequence [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2009/07/22-webapps-minutes.html#action05]

<trackbot> Sorry, couldn't find user - Dand

<dand> http://www.danilatos.com/event-test/ime-test.html

shepazu: should this be like defined now, or should a property be added to text event?
... I've been thinking to add a new property to textEvent "origin"
... whether the text is from copy-paste/dnd/etc..
... would it be useful?

dand: yes, sounds useful

we need a list of most common possible values for the "origin"

<anne2> (and another name, origin is too confusing with the scheme/hostname/port tuple used for security purposes)

<shepazu> agreed, anne2

<shepazu> unknown, paste, IME, voice, handwriting, multimodal?

smaug: I'll test key+click event handling

<shepazu> trackbot, stop telcon

<trackbot> Sorry, shepazu, I don't understand 'trackbot, stop telcon'. Please refer to http://www.w3.org/2005/06/tracker/irc for help

<shepazu> trackbot, end telcon
