DIAL

Jose sends his regrets and plans to have a document ready for next week's call

<Rotan> I'm back.

Andy is preparing a draft Note for discussion in next week's call.

<scribe> ACTION: Dave to find out how to get free license for Oxygen for W3C Work [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2008/08/14-uwawg-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-102 - Find out how to get free license for Oxygen for W3C Work [on Dave Raggett - due 2008-08-21].

Dave brings Rotan up to speed after his vacation.

Rotan is keen that DIAL should not be tightly coupled to DISelect.

Dave believes that there is general agreement on that.

DIAL is not a delivery format.

XHTML2 has been quite slow in its progress, but has a lot of nice ideas.

<Rotan> Agree that pragmatic approach is to use more stable technologies, such as XHTML 1.

<Rotan> Just want to emphasise that introducing a new profile for DIAL is only going to affect the authoring side of the Web, so won't have the adoption challenges faced by delivery formats.

<Rotan> You author in DIAL, but the browser receives XHTML 1, or HTML 4, or SVG or whatever...

<Rotan> Important to avoid other groups in W3C responding with: "Oh cr*p, not another profile!"

Dave is very keen to ensure there is clarity on what W3C is doing and why

Dave also wants clarity on the work on pagination in relation to CSS.

<Rotan> We need some agreed guidelines on UWA blogging, such as "thou shalt not do marketing" :)
