Implementation report for mobileOK Basic 1.0 Tests

This document gathers implementation information on the W3C mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0 specification.

The Proposed Recommendation Entrance criteria defined in the Candidate Recommendation published in November 2007 are as follows:

• existence of ten highly visible mobileOK-compliant Web pages representing a number of different applications;
• existence of a checker that checks each aspect of each test specified in this document;
• existence of a test suite to verify the correct operation of mobileOK checkers.

Ten highly visible mobileOK Web pages

The following list of highly visible Web pages were mobileOK on 23 October 2008. It is not expected that these specific sites will still be mobileOK at any point in the future.

1. Search Engine: Google search engine (check)
2. Newspaper: Tagesschau (check), Milan News (check)
3. Todo list tracker: Remember the milk (check)
4. Tradeshow: CeBIT show (check)
5. Content portal: T-Online (check)
6. Phone book: Das Telefon Buch (check)
7. Corporate sites: Fundacion CTIC (check), dotMobi (check), W3C Mobile Web Initiative (check), PostBank.de (check)
8. Wikipedia: mobile.wikipedia.org (official version) (check), 7Val-Wikipedia (check)
9. Developers site: mobiforge.mobi (check)

In addition to these sites, the following tools are known to generate mobileOK content:

• SevenVal FIT mobile platform
• MobileAware
• HawHaw, the transcoder used by Wikipedia mobile
• Merkur adapts Web sites into mobileOK versions
• MyMobileWeb is an open-source software platform that handles the complexity related to dealing with multiple delivery contexts

mobileOK checker

The mobileOK checker task force of the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group has developed and released a Java library to check conformance to the mobileOK specification.

This library is used as the backend of the W3C mobileOK basic checker service.

Test suite

The Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group has developed a test suite targeted at mobileOK checkers that allows to assess whether a checker implements the mobileOK specification correctly.
