Flyer

ivan, susie, etc. looked at the draft, had comments, there were some calls to tie the form and shape, designer implemented the comments

flyer is now with W3C for feedback, feedback expected shortly

logos

bengee gives summary of what's happening with logos; there was a conslutation with people involved

the final outcome shall be one logo proposal, from which other will be derived

lots of progress on logos has been made over summer, so would be good to wrap it up

first place to use new logo might actually be the flyer we're working on

Bengee will look again at the technologies in the SW area, and some instructions would be provided for developing their specific logos

so that there is less anarchy and ad-hoc designing

Use Cases

ivan reports on the use cases, says that he hasn't so far received input from the Norwegian companies he spoke to before

we have seen input from DERI on a review of semantic web challenges, but ivan beleives that most of these are actually university prototypes rather than full-scale use cases

ivan made contact with DERI people to get some input on the reuse of some of these 'challenges;

susie reports that Pfizer case is close to be realized

susie received Mills Davis (?) presentation and compiled a list of names who he claimed are or want to use SW

maybe we should go through this list in the next call, fill in the gaps, and ask people on the IG for feedback on who are other people to reach out

melli asks if we are interested in academic scenarios and use cases, in addition to current focus

others believe that there is a large number of academic activities and efforts, which gives SW image of being purely theoretical and acacdemic affair

so, perhaps SWEO should focus on breaking this image and present SW as a viable way for companies to add value, make money, etc.

Information gathering

leo, who should have reported on this task is not available, so we follow this up later, next week.

URI doc

leo is sending the URI doc, so that he gets info on what is the right process to be included in the TAG

Community project

kjetil reports on the status of community projects and says there hasn't been much movement there?

apart of DBPedia, which was planned to be released

Kingsley mentioned he would make it available, prob. on 4th? to be checked

bengee committed to have the first version of his prototype by 19 Sep, DB pedia is being released

Jupiter SW event in San Jose

karen is going to present at jupiter SW meeting in San Jose, and will partly reuse the outcomes of the survey

we hope this would be achieved within a month

ivan says that the way we planned it, that she would go and talk about it, etc. ivan and karen should get together (online at least) to prepare and collate their presentations

also important is that Karen will present it on behalf of SWEO

melli is a part of the panel discussion, and she can provide some input on her involvement next week

also, Kingsley shall be presenting something at the meeting

melli proposes to prepare some ideas about the presentation and share it with SWEO at the next call

Misc

danny is not available in the call, susie will get in touch with him to see how this can be supported, helped with, blogged about,...

all members should think about the activities they would like SWEO to do in the next period

so far we have f2f meeting and we will surely spend some time there discussing future plans for the remaining months

Bengee is going to meet Alexander Linden (?) who has founded a company HumanGrid, and wants to have a chat, so might be good to talk to him about what he might find useful from SWEO?

susie knows the person, and also ivan knows him from previous interactions - so that might be useful to get his opinions on board

may be we can add him at some point to the list of people prepareing use cases as well?

their current idea is to distribute specific tasks across many developers and thus satisfy needs of the clients

the case is interesting and we should keep up the lead

uldis asks if people dfrom SWEO are attending the even in SF bay area

they have currently a topic on making SW usable, which is of interest to us

there shall be someone from Oracle, one of the moderators, so we might learn somethin from them

<ivan> Jeff Pollock

maybe Melli will explore what she can learn from Jeff P.

<uldis> http://www.sdforum.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Calendar.eventDetail&eventID=12918

<uldis> see the url for event details

any more ideas?

kjetil (?) suggests providing students with some hints where she can look, what problems they may want to pursue, etc.?

maybe too many people work on SW in academia, so hard to do it on a large scale, but if we are approached, we should be able to offer some pointers

Susie says we return back to weekly calls, with the next one being Sep 12
