Mobile Web in Developing Countries (MWI-DC) Wiki

This wiki is a first step toward starting a new work around the concept of using mobile devices and web technologies to develop and deploy relevant and useful e-Services towards under-privileged populations and rural communities, aka bridging the Digital Divide.

The aim of this tool is to serve as a repository of informations about statistics, use cases, initiatives, ongoing projects, relevant organizations, etc (see organization section below). It should not be restricted to only Mobile Web information, but may include also information about Web or Mobile (usage, coverage, cost, usage, services, ...) in Developing Countries.

Community

Most of People behind the creation of this wiki were participants at the W3C Workshop on the Mobile Web in Developing Countries. Following this event, for the discussion to continue, a public archived mailing-list was created. The overall idea since W3C started investigating this topic is to gather at the same place people from the mobile world, people experts in the Digital Divide and Developing World constituents with field expertise (NGOs, government rep., local innovators, ...).

W3C also maintains a public home page describing its current view on the topic.
