Comments on W3C Royalty-Free Patent Policy 14 November 2002 Last Call Working Draft

Anonymous comment 1 (7 Nov 2002 15:52:51 -0500):Taken as a whole, XXX does not support the current Last Call draft of the PPWG. After approximately three years of participation in the PPWG, considering all the issues and weighing all the pros and cons, XXX believes that the W3C Current Patent Practice (CPP) should not be changed. To date, the W3C has been able to address all Intellectual Property (IP) issues to the satisfaction of all W3C members and the Web community. If the Last Call draft is adopted, it will likely cause more IP FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) than it solves and may polarize/splinter the W3C membership and Web community. In contrast, the policies of the W3C should foster teamwork and cooperation (as the CPP apparently has done) because only then will the W3C be able to lead the Web to its full potential by developing the best recommendations possible.
