Suggestions from the workshop
During the closing session, the participants had a very productive
discussion, which was minuted. For your convenience, we assembled a bullet
list of requirements on DRM Systems, suggestions for liaison and finally
suggestions. There is no mentioning of the amount of supporters or agreements.
This is just the rough list of all aspects. For a more focused document,
please have a look at the Workshop Summary Report.
Requirements on DRM-Systems
- Requirements Study
- Seamless end-user + content provider means to do this
- Framework
- API
- (Signed) Metadata
- Rights Language
- It could be similar to p3p (and differences) and link to p3p
- Library issues (put into IG)
- Archiving and preservation of knowledge and cultural works on the
Internet for future generations
- Human rights
- Expressing Rights language ontology in RDF / XML
- International jurisdiction (arbitration, mediation)
- Access rights
- Couple access rights and privacy rights (explore technical and
legal)
- Architecture/Understructure (to provide Hooks, HTTP 1.1R)
- Identify the integrity of the content (audit trail)
- Need something rapid...field in HTTP ./ HTML important step/msg
- Avoid exclusive focus on eyes and ears
- Content to travel from web to storage - persistent description
- Allow offline use
- Be sure whatever is created accommodates amateur as well as professional
creators
- Complex media combinations
Liaison
- Do no Harm - Respect work already done (do a survey)
- Collaboration (eg MPEG) CFP existing and planned eg Rights language and
Data Dictionary, eg <Indecs>
- Trust (relationsship to IETF)
- Architecture overview, take a step back and develop a glossary
- Leverage cross-sector / industry interest - identify the general
technical needs (IG or Workshop)
- Four perspectives need to be represented (business, legal, social,
technical)
- Consider other digital delivery networks
- Examination of patent issues - how patent interacts with DRM
- Combination of Copyright and Patent and Trademark
- XML signature effort
- Restate accessibility goals
