Software Developer

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, Laboratory for Computer Science, to develop and prototype new Web standards as part of the World Wide Web (W3) Consortium’s Semantic Web Advanced Development activity.  This is an opportunity for a unique individual to build and document Web applications using XML and the Resource Description Framework.  Possibilities range from bibliographic search and retrieval to service advertisement and discovery to collaborative authoring and groupware. 

REQUIREMENTS:  a background in computer science and software engineering.  Seek an engineer experienced in distributed systems design and implementation who is skilled in software development on UNIX systems in C++ and Java or other OOP language and has knowledge of Web protocols.  Must be familiar with up-to-date Web technology including XML.  Must have excellent English-language communication skills as evidenced by one or more of the following:  prior participation in English language working group meetings within W3C; conducting and attending meetings with English-speaking people; and/or delivery of English-language presentations on the work of W3C.  Experience in cross-platform development including Windows-NT a strong advantage.  Experience in Web software development, an interest in building Semantic Web tools, a good understanding of the Web industry, eagerness to make a better and more interoperable Web, and enthusiasm for the mission and spirit of W3C required.   Must work well as part of a team with many distractions and be free to travel both nationally and internationally.
