Task Forces

The Mobile and Web Interest Group divides it's work into task forces. Most work falls into these task forces although other ad-hoc work is also worked on. The group is currently working on charters for two new task forces for work in 2015! Please check back here to find out more about these in the future. Networking Task Force

Charter

The mission of the Networking Task Force, part of the W3C Web and Mobile Interest Group, is to evaluate opportunities where better integration with the underlying network can help Web applications achieve a better user experience.

Data Plan Info API

  • Leader: Natasha Rooney
  • Deadline: June 2015
  • Description: use cases and requirements for an API to let Web applications adapt their network usage to the data plan under which their user is on


Network Evolution Roadmap

  • Leader: ????
  • People: Giri Mandyam,
  • Deadline: End of February 2015
  • Description: a roadmap of the expected evolution of mobile networks which have potential impacts on Web applications


Bundling of network requests and security

  • Leader: ????
  • Deadline: April 2015
  • Description: performance considerations, HTTP2, Content-Security-Policy are potentially pushing changes in different directions with regard to how web app developers should deliver their Web apps (e.g. as one or many files); the task force should review and document these competing constraints.

API Gap Task Force

Charter

The mission of the API Task Force, part of the W3C Web and Mobile Interest Group, is to continuously review new and standing APIs on native platforms for mobile as well as extensions and plugins to browsers and create use cases and requirements to support the creation of these APIs on the web platform.

Standards for Web Application on Mobile

  • Leader: Dominique Hazael-Massieux
  • Deadline: Early March 2015
  • Description: update to the standards for web applications on mobile current state and roadmap


API Gap

  • Leader: Leandro Melo de Sales
  • People: Ian Maffet, Sokichi Fujita, Dom, Sanjinyang (Tencent), Brianzheng (Tencent)
  • Deadline: Early March 2015
  • Description: a document comparing the APIs and features available across various mobile platforms, and how web APIs and functionality compares
