Submission request to W3C (W3C Team Comment)
We, W3C Member Helsinki Univerisity of Technology hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following document(s) attached hereto:
which collectively are referred to as "the Submission". We request the
Submission be known as the Timesheets Submission.
This document specifies a new language for introducing temporal control to
XML documents. The XML Timing language (Timesheets) is included as a
distinctive section in a document and it assigns the timing information to
the elements in the other sections of the document, in the same way the
Cascading Style Sheets assign spatial properties to the elements.
Compared to SMIL, the XML Timing language can be seen as a different approach
to the timing of XML documents. It reuses a subset of timing primitives from
the Timing and Synchronization module of SMIL 2.0, but separates content,
styling and timing for easier authoring and maintenance of multimedia
documents.
Helsinki Univerisity of Technology hereby grants to the W3C, a perpetual,
nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any Helsinki
Univerisity of Technology copyrights in this contribution to copy, publish
and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.
Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a
W3C Activity, Helsinki Univerisity of Technology grants a right and license
of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on,
or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. Helsinki Univerisity of
Technology further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution
prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.
Should the Submission not be used as a contribution towards a W3C
Activity, change control of the Submission shall remain with the
Submitters.
The following are common or registered marks refered to in this request or the Submission: none.
The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer
licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described
in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the
Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.
We suggest that the Consortium forwards this Submission to related
working groups, such as HTML, SYMM, SVG, CSS, and CDF WG. We hope that the
different working groups are willing to give feedback, whether this
Submission could be used in their further work.
To help with this work, we are willing to participate in the discussions.
An implementation of the Timesheets Submission has already been made and it
is available at www.x-smiles.org.
