SUMMARY:Involving students and academia in web platform implementation
DTSTART;TZID=Asia/Tokyo:20251112T161500

DESCRIPTION:https://www.w3.org/events/meetings/cee32e6c-30f1-4d92-9ad6-6bb9
92659064/\n\nThis session will focus on how to involve university students
in implementation of the web platform (for example\, browser engines)\, u
sing a recent experience from the University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway as
a starting point. At UiB\, students have worked on real-world contribution
s to several ECMAScript proposals\, including implementation work in JavaS
cript engines. Some of these projects were learning exercises\, and some r
esulted in merged patches.\n\nWe want to explore how universities can esta
blish similar collaborations with W3C and other relevant SDOs:\n- How does
one connect students with standards groups?\n- How much involvement is ne
eded from mentors\, and how do we make that sustainable?\n- What are the i
ncentives for standards groups and universities to participate?\n- What ki
nd of contributions can we expect students to make (for example\, spec dev
 elopment\, tests\, implementation)\, and how scalable this could be? \n- W
hat kind of course structure supports this kind of work?\n\n**Goal(s):**\n
identifying paths to engage university students in real-world web standard
 s development work\n\nAgenda\n\n**Materials:**\n- [Slides](https://bldl.gi
