DESCRIPTION:https://www.w3.org/events/meetings/2107ef50-86f2-47b9-9b4e-a36c
f0e3015a/\n\nThe bulk of today’s web platform design is done in-house at
major browser vendors. This deprives the Web of vital **diversity of pers
pective** and naturally favors work with visible short-term impact over th
e **exploratory\, bigger picture R&D** needed to tackle deeper architectur
al issues.\n\nFor most other web stakeholders\, the standards process rema
ins an intimidating black box — so rife with misconceptions and barriers
to entry that **spending millions on workarounds** can seem easier than f
ixing shortcomings at the source.\n\nAnd for most other web standards desi
gners\, it is a labor of love\, disincentivized by employers or as an unpa
id side project.\nThe web platform is one of the most impactful products i
n the world. \nShaping its evolution requires a rare combination of **deep
\, broad\, and interdisciplinary expertise**. When the few who can do it w
ell are driven away from it in order to make ends meet\, **the entire Web
loses**.\n\nThese issues are intertwined. To make independent standards wo
rk sustainable\, we need to **expand the pool of available funding** — a
nd the only lasting way to do that is by helping more organizations see we
b platform design as a path to solving their own problems.\n\n**Goal(s):**
\nThis session aims to explore potential structures\, governance models\,
and outreach strategies for a _new\, independent entity_ with the mission
of addressing both issues. The goal of this new entity is **not to compet
e with any existing organization**\, but to strengthen the entire ecosyste
m by increasing awareness and abstracting the complexity of the standards
 process.\n\nAgenda\n\n**Materials:**\n- [Session proposal on GitHub](https
