Main discussions

The meeting made a round up of the task forces to see where they are at this moment, just as a start-of-the-year sync.

Layout and Pagination

Dave reported on an exciting work (project Houdini) starting at the CSS WG, aiming at some sort of an extensible CSS that would allow to create new CSS properties but also give a scripting access to the internals of, e.g., boxtrees. The latter is very relevant to the pagination requirements. There were some discussion on the complexity of the project, whether the boxtree control will give access to information on, e.g., font sizes. It is important to note that Alan Stearns' goal on the TF is also to tease out the little things that will make work in current browsers easier, not necessary concentrating on the large scale ideas only. That will be very useful for the pagination issues, i.e., fulfilling the publishing requirements.

Metadata

Bill reported on the TF, that has finished the report that will be published on the 8th of January. At present the group is, sort of, done with its current goals, and feels somewhat finished.

Content and Markup

Tzviya reported on the discussion the TF had with the PF WG in December; a formal joint task force will be set up soon to define the digipub vocabulary as a module of ARIA. This joined TF should be set up within a few weeks.

Annotation

This TF has essentially closed its work by moving to the separate Working Group; it will be formally closed on the Web site, Wiki, etc.

Accessibility

Charles reported on the fact that the TF has set up the various wiki pages, tables on Google doc, etc. Separate mailing lists have been set up and a separate phone conference will take place this coming Tuesday or Friday

STEM

Peter reported on the questionnaire that is now almost done. Feedbacks from the group will be welcome on the overall structure later today or tomorrow, when the Peter has completed the work; it can then go to some guinea pigs to test it, and can go live within a few weeks.
