{"id":5955,"date":"2016-04-05T11:06:48","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T11:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/?p=5955"},"modified":"2016-04-05T11:09:14","modified_gmt":"2016-04-05T11:09:14","slug":"proposed-group-big-data-europe-community-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/blog\/2016\/04\/05\/proposed-group-big-data-europe-community-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Proposed Group: Big Data Europe Community Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Big Data Europe Community Group has been proposed by Phil Archer:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>This is the Community Group established under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.big-data-europe.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">BigDataEurope Project<\/a>, a Coordination and Support Action under the European Union&#8217;s Horizon 2020 Programme. The project is building a a powerful, flexible, customizable platform that can handle data ingestion, integration and processing at scale. This can be instantiated and configured as desired, and can include a number of existing datasets as part of the package.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, the project is running a series of pilots addressing the 7 <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/horizon2020\/en\/h2020-section\/societal-challenges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Societal Challenges<\/a> identified by the European Commission:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>health, demographic change and wellbeing;<\/li>\n<li>food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research, and the bioeconomy;<\/li>\n<li>secure, clean and efficient energy;<\/li>\n<li>smart, green and integrated transport;<\/li>\n<li>climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials;<\/li>\n<li>Europe in a changing world &#8211; inclusive, innovative and reflective societies;<\/li>\n<li>secure societies &#8211; protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Information and news about the project, the pilots etc. is available through its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.big-data-europe.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">own Web site<\/a>. This Community Group is the place to discuss how Web technologies can be applied to big data, particularly the <i>semantification<\/i> of data.<\/p>\n<p>The BDE project is also associated with the <a href=\"\/2016\/poe\/\">Permissions &amp; Obligations Expression<\/a> Working Group.<\/p>\n<p>This single BDE Community Group supersedes and replaces the 7 individual CGs originally set up to cover<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-health\/\">health<\/a>,<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-food\/\">food<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-energy\/\">energy<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-transport\/\">transport<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-climate\/\">climate<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-societies\/\">societies<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/community\/bde-secure-societies\/\">secure societies<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>You are invited to <a href=\"\/community\/groups\/proposed#bde\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">support the creation of this group<\/a>. Once the group has a total of five supporters, it will be launched and people can join to begin work.
