As Internet based applications evolve, a new array of specifications are being developed and deployed. \u00a0The idea is that internet users will be able to develop new ‘semantic’, ‘internet aware’ functionality as easily or in a similar way to the use and evolution of HTML as the foundation for WWW.<\/p>\n

An important aspect of these new specifications is the concept of using 5 Star Linked-Data. \u00a0So what is it?<\/p>\n

As part of the evolving WWW design issues<\/a>\u00a0“Architectural and philosophical points” documentation; Tim Berners-lee describes the concept of \u00a0LinkedData<\/a>. \u00a0Critical to the design is the use of RDF.<\/p>\n

TimBL Describes 5-Star Linked Data in the following way<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
\u2605<\/td>\nAvailable on the web (whatever format)\u00a0but with an open licence, to be Open Data<\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u2605\u2605<\/td>\nAvailable as machine-readable structured data (e.g. excel instead of image scan of a table)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u2605\u2605\u2605<\/td>\nas (2) plus non-proprietary format (e.g. CSV instead of excel)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605<\/td>\nAll the above plus, Use open standards from W3C (RDF and SPARQL) to identify things, so that people can point at your stuff<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
