functionality as easily or in a similar way to the use and evolution of HTML as the foundation for WWW.<\/p>\n<p>An important aspect of these new specifications is the concept of using 5 Star Linked-Data. \u00a0So what is it?<\/p>\n<p>As part of the evolving WWW<a title=\"Design Issues - Tim Berners-Lee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/DesignIssues\/\" target=\"_blank\"> design issues<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Architectural and philosophical points&#8221; documentation; Tim Berners-lee describes the concept of \u00a0<a title=\"Linked Data - Tim Berners-Lee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/DesignIssues\/LinkedData.html\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedData<\/a>. \u00a0Critical to the design is the use of RDF.<\/p>\n<p>TimBL Describes 5-Star Linked Data in the following way<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u2605<\/td>\n<td>Available on the web (whatever format)\u00a0<i>but with an open licence, to be Open Data<\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u2605\u2605<\/td>\n<td>Available as machine-readable structured data (e.g. excel instead of image scan of a table)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u2605\u2605\u2605<\/td>\n<td>as (2) plus non-proprietary format (e.g. CSV instead of excel)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605<\/td>\n<td>All the above plus, Use open standards from W3C (RDF and SPARQL) to identify things, so that people can point at your stuff<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605<\/td>\n<td>All the above, plus: Link your data to other people\u2019s data to provide context<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>SOURCE:\u00a0http:\/\/www.w3.org\/DesignIssues\/LinkedData.html<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"5 Start Open Data\" href=\"http:\/\/5stardata.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">5 \u2605 Open Data<\/a> site provides some good additional information to get started in understanding 5-star Linked Data.<\/p>\n<p>The starting point for any application developer is perhaps to start understanding <a title=\"w3 - RDF \" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/RDF\/\" target=\"_blank\">RDF<\/a>.\u00a0Useful resources can be found on the <a title=\"Linked Data\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Linked-Data Github Repository<\/a>\u00a0and important related works include the <a title=\"Read Write Web\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/\" target=\"_blank\">Read Write Web<\/a>, <a title=\"WebID\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/webid\/\" target=\"_blank\">WebID<\/a>, and a list of other related communities can be found <a title=\"W3 Community Groups\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/groups\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Internet based applications evolve, a new array of specifications are being developed and deployed. \u00a0The idea is that internet users will be able to develop new &#8216;semantic&#8217;, &#8216;internet aware&#8217;
