{"id":3,"date":"2019-09-17T09:58:29","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T09:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/web-thing-protocol\/2019\/09\/17\/call-for-participation-in-web-thing-protocol-community-group\/"},"modified":"2022-08-11T11:46:10","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T11:46:10","slug":"call-for-participation-in-web-thing-protocol-community-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/web-thing-protocol\/2019\/09\/17\/call-for-participation-in-web-thing-protocol-community-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Participation in Web Thing Protocol Community Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"\/community\/web-thing-protocol\/\">Web Thing Protocol Community Group<\/a> has been launched:<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>The mission of this group is to define a common protocol for communicating with connected devices over the web, to enable ad-hoc interoperability on the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/WoT\/\">Web of Things<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Deliverables of the group may include use cases, requirements and specifications.<\/p>\n<p>The group will collaborate with the W3C Web of Things Interest Group and Working Group to ensure any specifications complement or extend the \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/wot-thing-description\">Web of Things (WoT) Thing Description<\/a>\u201d specification.<\/p>\n<p>Objectives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Define a WebSocket sub-protocol for the Web of Things, using the W3C \u201cWeb of Things (WoT) Thing Description\u201d data model and operations<\/li>\n<li>Define an HTTP protocol binding for the Web of Things (or support the Web of Things Working Group in defining this protocol binding and ensuring consistency with the WebSocket sub-protocol where appropriate)<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate other potential Web of Things protocol bindings (e.g. CoAP)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>See the proposed <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/benfrancis.github.io\/web-thing-protocol-charter\/\" target=\"_blank\">Community Group Charter<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>In order to <a href=\"\/community\/web-thing-protocol\/join\">join the group<\/a>, you will need a <a href=\"\/accounts\/request\">W3C account<\/a>. Please note, however, that <a href=\"\/community\/about\/faq\/#is-w3c-membership-required-to-participate-in-a-community-or-business-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">W3C Membership<\/a> is not required to join a Community Group.<\/p>\n<p>This is a community initiative. This group was originally proposed on 2019-09-16 by Ben Francis. The following people supported its creation: Ben Francis, Gustavo Zapico, Junde Yhi, Zoltan Kis, Dave Raggett.
