{"id":3,"date":"2016-07-01T12:17:46","date_gmt":"2016-07-01T12:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/sparql-exists\/?p=3"},"modified":"2016-07-01T12:17:46","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T12:17:46","slug":"call-for-participation-in-sparql-maintenance-exists-community-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/sparql-exists\/2016\/07\/01\/call-for-participation-in-sparql-maintenance-exists-community-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Participation in SPARQL Maintenance (EXISTS) Community Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"\/community\/sparql-exists\/\">SPARQL Maintenance (EXISTS) Community Group<\/a> has been launched:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The &#8220;SPARQL Maintenance (EXISTS)&#8221; Community Group is a forum to discuss and address problems with the &#8220;EXISTS&#8221; feature in SPARQL 1.1.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/sparql11-overview\/\">SPARQL 1.1 suite of specifications<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2009\/sparql\/docs\/tests\/\">SPARQL 1.1 test suite<\/a> are frozen. A process exists to record errata and that will be one input to any working group chartered to revise SPARQL.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, SPARQL is being used in real-work systems in industry and public-sector. The user community expects a high degree of conformance across implementations.<\/p>\n<p>The EXISTS feature has been found to be problematic. This feature is used by the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2014\/data-shapes\/\">RDF Data Shapes Working Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This community group will create CG Notes and accompanying test suites to describe one or more improvements with an emphasis on maintaining compatibility.<\/p>\n<p>This group is not producing specifications.<\/p>\n<p>Any tests produced by the will submitted to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rdf-tests\/\">RDF Test Suite Curation CG<\/a> for long-term stewardship.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In order to <a href=\"\/community\/sparql-exists\/join\">join the group<\/a>, you will need a <a href=\"\/accounts\/request\">W3C account<\/a>. Please note, however, that <a href=\"\/community\/about\/faq\/#is-w3c-membership-required-to-participate-in-a-community-or-business-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">W3C Membership<\/a> is not required to join a Community Group.<\/p>\n<p>This is a community initiative. This group was originally proposed on 2016-07-01 by Andy Seaborne. The following people supported its creation: Andy Seaborne, A Soroka, Peter Patel-Schneider, Simon Steyskal, Axel Polleres. W3C&#8217;s hosting of this group does not imply endorsement of the activities.<\/p>\n<p>The group must now <a href=\"\/community\/about\/faq\/#how-do-we-choose-a-chair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">choose a chair<\/a>.
