{"id":456,"date":"2018-01-07T08:15:33","date_gmt":"2018-01-07T08:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=456"},"modified":"2018-01-07T08:15:33","modified_gmt":"2018-01-07T08:15:33","slug":"read-write-web-q4-summary-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2018\/01\/07\/read-write-web-q4-summary-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Q4 Summary \u2014 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2017\/11\/TPAC\/\">TPAC 2017<\/a> kicked off in California, achieving its highest attendance to date, with some saying it may have been the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/blog\/2017\/11\/last-weeks-may-be-our-best-tpac-ever-w3c-strategic-highlights\/\">best TPAC ever<\/a>.\u00a0 Extensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2017\/11\/w3c-highlights\/\">Strategic Highlights<\/a> were also published.<\/p>\n<p>HTML 5.2 is now a recommendation, with HTML 5.3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/blog\/2017\/12\/html-5-2-is-done-html-5-3-is-coming\/\">coming<\/a>.\u00a0 Work on payments made progress with some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/blog\/2017\/10\/money2020-recap\/\">demos<\/a> presented at money 20\/20.\u00a0 There was also a nice look ahead to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dataversity.net\/semantic-technology-semantic-web-trends-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">2018 and semantic web trends<\/a> from Dataversity.<\/p>\n<p>A slight pickup in activity this quarter in the community group.\u00a0 With around 75 <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">messages<\/a>, almost double the previous quarter.\u00a0 More details below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Aside from Fedora, there was some <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2017Dec\/0007.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">outreach<\/a> this quarter with CERN, where it all began, with a view to possibly reuse Web Access Control.<\/p>\n<p><a>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In the CG there were calls for <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2017Nov\/0000.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">team members<\/a> with Sebastian Samagura starting a project.\u00a0 An <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2017Nov\/0026.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">announcement<\/a> of the Fedora API Spec CR and a fantastic post by Ruben entitled, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2017Dec\/0016.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Paradigm Shifts for the Decentralized Web<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png\" alt=\"solid\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png 200w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>By convention it&#8217;s been decided to try to add the &#8216;solid-app&#8217; tag to new and existing apps for the solid platform, which will hopefully allow apps to become <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/topics\/solid-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">searchable<\/a>.\u00a0 One new app, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/factsmission\/twee-fi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">twee-fi<\/a>, was written from scratch quite quickly and seems to work with all our servers.\u00a0 There is a general move to patch existing apps to follow this pattern so that both OIDC and TLS auth can be leveraged.<\/p>\n<p>There have been updates to <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/rdflib.js\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rdflib.js<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/solid-ui\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid-ui<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/solid-app-set\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid-app-set<\/a>.\u00a0 I also made a small console based <a href=\"https:\/\/melvincarvalho.github.io\/solid-libraries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">playground<\/a>, solid-libraries, that shows how these libraries fit together, and allows a few commands as examples.\u00a0 Additionally I have started trying to patch apps to use the new auth system starting with the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/melvincarvalho\/solid-tutorial-pastebin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pastebin tutorial<\/a>.\u00a0 Hopefully more apps will be patched this quarter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2018\/01\/owl.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-458\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2018\/01\/owl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not Least&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/2017\/REC-owl-time-20171019\/\">OWL Time ontology<\/a> is now a W3C REC.\u00a0The ontology provides a vocabulary for expressing facts about topological (ordering) relations among instants and intervals, together with information about durations, and about temporal position including date-time information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary TPAC 2017 kicked off in California, achieving its highest attendance to date, with some saying it may have been the best TPAC ever.\u00a0 Extensive Strategic Highlights were also published.
