{"id":427,"date":"2017-04-02T11:04:39","date_gmt":"2017-04-02T11:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=427"},"modified":"2017-04-02T16:03:42","modified_gmt":"2017-04-02T16:03:42","slug":"read-write-web-q1-summary-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2017\/04\/02\/read-write-web-q1-summary-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Q1 Summary \u2014 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A quiet start to 2017 as people prepare for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.www2017.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www 2017<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.eswc-conferences.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ESWC<\/a>.\u00a0 An active political quarter saw the inauguration of a US new president, and numerous concerns raised about new laws regarding the <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2017\/03\/for-sale-your-private-browsing-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">privacy at the ISP level<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Linked Open Data cloud continues to grow and has a neat update <a href=\"http:\/\/lod-cloud.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 There has also been a release of the <a href=\"http:\/\/shacl.org\/playground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">SHACL playground<\/a> which allows data to be validated according to various &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/shacl\/\">shapes<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/ldn\/\">Linked Data Notifications<\/a> has become a Proposed Recommendation, and will allow users of the web to have a data inbox, and enable a whole host of use cases.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Collaboration has started to begun with two cloud providers, <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">nextcloud<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cozy.io\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">cozy cloud<\/a>.\u00a0 Hopefully this will bring read and write web standards to a wider audience, over time.<\/p>\n<p><a>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2017Jan\/0002.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ideas<\/a> for extending the way PATCH works has been described by TimBL.\u00a0 I found interesting the way data can be transmitted over other protocols than the web<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; When clients of listening to the same resource are in fact located physically close, they could exchange patches through other medium like wifi or bluetooth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The system can evolve (under stress) to work entirely with distributed patches, making the original HTTP server unnecessary<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The patches could be combined with hashes of versions of folders to be the basis for a git-like version control system, or connect to git itself<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png\" alt=\"solid\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid.png 200w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2015\/09\/solid-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There is a new test <a href=\"https:\/\/solidtest.space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">website<\/a> for the openid authentication branch of node solid server and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solid\/solid-client\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid client<\/a> has been updated to work with this.\u00a0 There have been various fixes to rdf and solid libraries, and two new repositories for <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solid\/solid-notifications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid notifications<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solid\/solid-notifications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid permissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Good work has continued on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/rabel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rabel<\/a>, a program for reading and writing linked data in various formats.\u00a0 In addition the browser <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/mashlib\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">shimmed<\/a> apps on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/solid-ui\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid-ui<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/linkeddata\/solid-app-set\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">solid-app-set<\/a> continue to improve.\u00a0 Finally, *shameless plug*, I am writing a gitbook on a skinned version of node solid server, <a href=\"https:\/\/project-bitmark.gitbooks.io\/bitmark-storage\/content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">bitmark storage<\/a>, which hopes to integrate solid with crypto currencies, creating self funding storage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/bitcoin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-237\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/bitcoin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"96\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not Least&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On the topic of crypto currencies, I&#8217;m very excited about a draft paper released on <a href=\"https:\/\/semanticblocks.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/03\/linked_blockchain_paper3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">semantic block chains<\/a>.\u00a0 There was some buzz generated around this topic and hopefully will feature in a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/lddlworkshop2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">workshop<\/a> next quarter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary A quiet start to 2017 as people prepare for www 2017 and ESWC.\u00a0 An active political quarter saw the inauguration of a US new president, and numerous concerns raised about new laws regarding the privacy at the ISP level. &hellip;
