{"id":317,"date":"2013-09-30T20:49:06","date_gmt":"2013-09-30T20:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=317"},"modified":"2013-09-30T20:49:06","modified_gmt":"2013-09-30T20:49:06","slug":"read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-september-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2013\/09\/30\/read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-september-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Monthly Open Thread \u2014 (September 2013)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As the read write community group enters it&#8217;s third year, there has been activity on infrastructure, apps (both server and client side) and some work on identity which will be an important component of Web 3.0.\u00a0 To wit, the W3C has formed a brand new community group, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/fedid\/\">Federated Identities for the Open Web Community Group<\/a>, we hope this will enable federated identity to claim it&#8217;s rightful place as a first class citizen of the web.<\/p>\n<p>The widely awaited JSON LD spec nears completion, with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/blog\/SW\/2013\/09\/11\/json-ld-feature-freeze-and-call-for-implementation\/\">feature freeze<\/a> and call for implementations.<\/p>\n<p>The community group welcomes new members, has begun towards writing up a Read Write Web Spec documenting some of the work we&#8217;ve been doing over the years, and now has a new apps areas with it&#8217;s first app.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also upgrades to server software and a new identity provider, hosted by MIT.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I was fortunate enough to meet up with one of the core Drupal developers, <a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/user\/52142\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">St\u00e9phane Corlosquet<\/a>, and others at the Drupal 2013 conference.\u00a0 We had a productive chat about him continuing his great work to get linked data into the core of Drupal, which powers 2% of web sites.<\/p>\n<p>I also met up with the team at the <a href=\"https:\/\/unhosted.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">unhosted<\/a> project, for their annual unconfernece, who are working projects that separate apps from commodity storage.\u00a0 We talked about how we could work together to make a larger, and higher quality app eco system.<\/p>\n<p><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first work (mainly brainstorming) has <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013Sep\/0008.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">begun<\/a> to put together the ideas we&#8217;ve been talking about into a coherent document.\u00a0 It will be something like a spec meets primer, and will hopefully show the techniques that can leverage the arch of WWW to read and write to resources with a given identity, that can be verified, and access controlled.<\/p>\n<p>The Community Group welcomes <a href=\"https:\/\/joindiaspora.com\/u\/deadsuperhero\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sean Tilley<\/a>, the community manager, from the Diaspora Project.\u00a0 Diaspora are hoping to make their system more federated and able to benefit from standards that join networks together, hopefully we can work together to achieve that!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/ld-cal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-319\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/ld-cal-300x221.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/ld-cal-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/ld-cal.png 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The RWW now has an application area on github, located <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rww-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 The first app to date is a linked data calendar, <a href=\"https:\/\/ld-cal.rww.io\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ld-cal<\/a>, which uses rdflib.js to write your calendar events to commodity storage of your choosing &#8212; something I&#8217;m already using on a daily basis!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/data.fm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Data.fm<\/a> has had a major upgrade with lots of the new features form rww.io important into the code base.\u00a0 Notable also is a new identity provider hosted by MIT which can issue you client side certificates tied to your google identity, or a new webID.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/alaska_annotation.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-318\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/alaska_annotation-264x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/alaska_annotation-264x300.png 264w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/09\/alaska_annotation.png 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not least\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For those that like mapping, you may enjoy the linked data annotation application, <a href=\"http:\/\/maphub.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">maphub<\/a>.\u00a0 There are 100s of maps both current and historic, that allow you to write to a point or rectangle and add annotations.\u00a0 The data if fully exportable and linkable using web standards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary As the read write community group enters it&#8217;s third year, there has been activity on infrastructure, apps (both server and client side) and some work on identity which will be an important component of Web 3.0.\u00a0 To wit, the &hellip;
