{"id":251,"date":"2013-05-31T14:47:57","date_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=251"},"modified":"2013-05-31T14:47:57","modified_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:47:57","slug":"read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-may-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2013\/05\/31\/read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-may-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Monthly Open Thread \u2014 (May 2013)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www2013.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">WWW 2013<\/a> took place this year, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.\u00a0 There was a packed <a href=\"http:\/\/www2013.org\/program-view\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">program<\/a>, including an interesting workshop entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/events.linkeddata.org\/ldow2013\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Linked Data on the Web<\/a>&#8220;, four papers of which, were dedicated to the Read Write Web.<\/p>\n<p>The big news in linked data is that gmail has started to <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/gmail\/schemas\/embedding-schemas-in-emails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">add<\/a> JSON LD to their popular email service.\u00a0 This allows developers to embed structured data into an email, in the form of Reviews, RSVPs, Interactive actions and Flight cards.\u00a0 Response has been generally positive to this move, with perhaps the possibility for couple of minor tweaks to the markup.<\/p>\n<p>The following papers were presented at the Read Write Web session in Rio : <a title=\"R&amp;Wbase: git for triples\" href=\"http:\/\/events.linkeddata.org\/ldow2013\/papers\/ldow2013-paper-01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">R&amp;Wbase: git for triples<\/a>, <a title=\"OSLC Resource Shape: A language for defining constraints on Linked Data\" href=\"http:\/\/events.linkeddata.org\/ldow2013\/papers\/ldow2013-paper-02.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">OSLC Resource Shape: A language for defining constraints on Linked Data<\/a>, <a title=\"Hydra: A Vocabulary for Hypermedia-Driven Web APIs\" href=\"http:\/\/events.linkeddata.org\/ldow2013\/papers\/ldow2013-paper-03.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hydra: A Vocabulary for Hypermedia-Driven Web APIs<\/a>, <a title=\"Reasoning over SPARQL\" href=\"http:\/\/events.linkeddata.org\/ldow2013\/papers\/ldow2013-paper-08.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Reasoning over SPARQL<\/a>.\u00a0 The website <a href=\"https:\/\/w3id.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">w3id.org<\/a> was also released, which promises to be a permanent home for COOL URIs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The RWW group welcomes new members.\u00a0 In particular, we had a great <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013May\/0021.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">introduction<\/a> from read write web veteran, Henri Bergius.\u00a0 Henri has been working on read write topics for a number of years.\u00a0 Notably <a href=\"http:\/\/midgard-project.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">midgaurd<\/a> in the 1990s, and more recently, the impressive <a href=\"http:\/\/createjs.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">create.js<\/a>.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re unfamiliar with Henri&#8217;s work you may enjoy this <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/45633052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">video<\/a> that goes through many core concepts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There has been some <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013May\/0039.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">discussion<\/a> on the mailing list, but also with the semantic web group, and some IETF folks as to the best way to use HTTP to identify a user to a server.\u00a0 This would enable a user to identify itself to a server without having to rely on the subjecctAltName field in a client side TLS certificate, or other methods.\u00a0 Thought had been to reuse the &#8220;From&#8221; header, however this seems tightly bound to email.\u00a0 Current thinking is that we draft text for a new header, then find a name for it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/05\/cozycloud.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-252\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/05\/cozycloud.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"43\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Our co-chair, Andrei Sambra, met the developers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cozycloud.cc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cozy Cloud<\/a> project in Paris.\u00a0 There&#8217;s hope that this system can be combined with the my-profile project to become a kind of read write web example of a social dashboard.\u00a0 Cozy Cloud comes with a dozen or so cloud enabled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cozycloud.cc\/apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">apps<\/a>, and has also been short listed for the LeWeb London best startup competition, so wishing them best of luck!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/05\/activitystreams_logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-253\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/05\/activitystreams_logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"40\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not least\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Activity Streams, the popular social network data exchange format, have been dipping their toes into Linked data with, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chmod777self.com\/2013\/05\/time-for-updated-activity-streams.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Activity Streams 2.0<\/a>, a JSON LD powered activity stream.\u00a0 This currently does not have official standing but the reception has been good, and there is talk of pushing it through the IETF.\u00a0 Hopefully this can finally lead to a united and interoperable social web for all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary WWW 2013 took place this year, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.\u00a0 There was a packed program, including an interesting workshop entitled &#8220;Linked Data on the Web&#8220;, four papers of which, were dedicated to the Read Write Web.
