were a new phenomenon, and Facebook and Twitter were but twinkles in their founder&#8217;s eyes, it&#8217;s very much worth <a href=\"http:\/\/readwrite.com\/2013\/04\/19\/rw10-richard-macmanus-readwrite-tenth-anniversary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reflecting<\/a> on just how far the RWW has come in the last decade!<\/p>\n<p>A new acronym, WYSIWYM, was coined with the announcement of the impressive markup tool, <a href=\"http:\/\/aksw.org\/Projects\/RDFaCE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">RDFaCE<\/a>.\u00a0 Watch the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wxtlAol4HB0&amp;list=PLSBPxopOi20UsJmbqFp2OZlLWBY2LviP6&amp;index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">screencast<\/a> to see &#8216;What You See Is What You Mean&#8217;, in action.<\/p>\n<p>The big announcement of the month came from Manu Sporny who <a href=\"https:\/\/hacks.mozilla.org\/2013\/04\/web-payments-with-payswarm-identity-part-1-of-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">demonstrates<\/a> the new Payswarm Linked Data Payments Protocol in action.\u00a0 The whole suite includes many important solutions, such as identity, digital signing, key management, encryption and, of course, payments!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There is been more interaction with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/webpayments\/\">W3C payments group<\/a> on the newly implemented payments protocol.\u00a0 There was some discussion about using WebID as a decentralized identity system.\u00a0 Essentially <a href=\"https:\/\/payswarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">payswarm<\/a> are already using HTTP URIs to denote an agent so there seems to be a close similarity.\u00a0 Now we can tie these to PEM keys and allow signatures and encryption.\u00a0 That is going to give many new options for identity, auth, secure payments and messaging.<\/p>\n<p>There has also been some initial <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013Apr\/0070.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">discussion<\/a> with OASIS about using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/AccessControl\" target=\"_blank\">Access Control Lists<\/a> with linked data.<\/p>\n<p><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There has been some <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013Apr\/0009.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">talk<\/a> about extending the &#8220;from&#8221; header to allow anyURI as wells as the currently suggested email.\u00a0 This has come up a few times in the past and could be a neat way to identify a user.\u00a0 There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garethhunt.com\/modifyheaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">firefox plugin<\/a> which some people are using already.<\/p>\n<p>A new protocol, <a href=\"http:\/\/webmention.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Webmention<\/a>, which is in its early stages, and allows federated commenting on blogs has had some buzz on the web.\u00a0 It is also very similar to the semantic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/Pingback\">pingback<\/a> protocol many systems use already.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/meritora-large.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-246\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/meritora-large-300x35.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"35\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/meritora-large-300x35.png 300w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/meritora-large.png 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first commercial integration of linked data payment systems was launched in the form or &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.meritora.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">meritora<\/a>&#8216;.\u00a0 The team behind it, <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalbazaar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">digital bazaar<\/a>, have also been driving forces in the <a href=\"https:\/\/payswarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">payswarm<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/rdfa.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rdfa<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/json-ld.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">json ld<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/webid.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">webid<\/a> efforts.\u00a0 Great to see so many web scale technologies come together in a new system!<\/p>\n<p>There was a look at Daniel Applequist&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/114314928852941289704\/posts\/QzAdqYTqUcz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">integration<\/a> to the internet of things and <a href=\"https:\/\/cosm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">cosm<\/a> to write his room temperature to the web in realtime.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/wikidata.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-247\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/04\/wikidata.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not least\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikimedia.de\/wiki\/Hauptseite\" rel=\"external nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">German Wikimedia Foundation<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wikimedia.de\/2013\/04\/24\/wikidata-all-around-the-world\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikidata.org\/wiki\/Wikidata:Main_Page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wikidata<\/a> project has now been deployed on all language versions of Wikipedia and is ready for use around the world.\u00a0 Wikidata \u2013 the first new Wikimedia project since 2006 \u2013 &#8220;provides a collaboratively edited database of the world&#8217;s knowledge&#8221;.\u00a0 Congrats on this big milestone and reaching their 12 millionth linked data item!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary It was exactly ten years ago, that Richard MacManus wrote his seminal article entitled, &#8216;The Read\/Write Web&#8216;.\u00a0\u00a0 In a time when &#8216;weblogs&#8217;
