{"id":234,"date":"2013-03-31T16:54:53","date_gmt":"2013-03-31T16:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=234"},"modified":"2013-03-31T16:54:53","modified_gmt":"2013-03-31T16:54:53","slug":"read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-march-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2013\/03\/31\/read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-march-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Monthly Open Thread \u2014 (March 2013)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some excitement on the web as the new version of HTTP (named HTTPbis) gets closer to being launched.\u00a0 Kingsley has <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2013Mar\/0012.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pointed out<\/a> some important details related to URLs and the Content-Location header.<\/p>\n<p>Linked data continues it&#8217;s steady progress with many of the world&#8217;s libraries publishing their data using the <a href=\"http:\/\/viaf.org\/viaf\/data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">VIAF endpoint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/2013\/REC-sparql11-overview-20130321\/\">SPARQL 1.1<\/a> has been voted an official W3C REC, meaning we now have, a long awaited,\u00a0 read write query language for the web.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There has been good progress with with the WebID community group, in fixing some bugs in the cert ontology.\u00a0 Also adding <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-webid\/2013Mar\/0024.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">DSA keys<\/a>, and discussion of further work.\u00a0 I also informally talked to the bitcoin foundation, about creating a bitcoin ontology.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a hope of mine that the read write web can be soon used for payments, and we seem to be getting very close now.<\/p>\n<p><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A relatively quite March in the CG, we did however welcome <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/blog\/SW\/2013\/03\/21\/eleven-sparql-1-1-specifications-are-w3c-recommendations\/\">SPARQL 1.1 as a REC<\/a>, giving read and write querying ability on the web.\u00a0 There has been some previous discussion about adding sparql to the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/tools.ietf.org\/html\/rfc6415#section-6.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">well known<\/a>&#8221; pattern on websites, which is perhaps something that can be further incubated.<\/p>\n<p>Some early feelers have been put out too, to see if anyone will be able to attend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/participate\/meetings\">TPAC 2013 in China<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/bitcoin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-237\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/bitcoin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"96\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some preliminary informal work has taken place to try and model crypto currencies for use in a read write ledger scenario.\u00a0 Things that could be possibly modelled going forward are, <a href=\"https:\/\/payswarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">payswarm<\/a> (already linked data compliant), <a href=\"http:\/\/bitcoin.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">bitcoin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/litecoin.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">litecoin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ripple_monetary_system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ripple<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve spoken to people at the <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">bitcoin foundation<\/a> about creating an ontology which could hopefully be an interesting use case for the read write web, working with interesting distributed computing problems such as, network synchronization, race conditions, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Byzantine_Generals'_Problem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Byzantine generals&#8217; problem<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Double-spending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">double-spending<\/a> and reputation based trust.\u00a0 Little in the way of prototypes at this second, but definitely more to come in this space!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/gdrive.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-238\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/gdrive.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/gdrive.png 256w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2013\/03\/gdrive-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not least\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Google embrace the realtime read write web with their <a href=\"http:\/\/googledevelopers.blogspot.ch\/2013\/03\/build-collaborative-apps-with-google.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">announcement<\/a> of Google Drive Realtime API.\u00a0 There have already been some previous RWW experiments with the Google Drive system, so it will be interesting to see what apps can be built on top of this!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary Some excitement on the web as the new version of HTTP (named HTTPbis) gets closer to being launched.\u00a0 Kingsley has pointed out some important details related to URLs and the Content-Location header.
