{"id":206,"date":"2012-12-31T12:52:26","date_gmt":"2012-12-31T12:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/?p=206"},"modified":"2012-12-31T12:52:26","modified_gmt":"2012-12-31T12:52:26","slug":"read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-december-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/2012\/12\/31\/read-write-web-monthly-open-thread-december-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Write Web \u2014 Monthly Open Thread \u2014 (December 2012)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Wishing all read write web enthusiasts a happy new year!\u00a0 2012 ended with heated debate, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itu.int\/en\/wcit-12\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">World Conference on International Telecommunications<\/a> over ongoing governance of the internet.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/technology-20594779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Concerns<\/a> had been raised that changes to the current groups, responsible for regulation, may have risk on the downside.\u00a0 It would appear that the system that is in place, will continue at least in the short term.<\/p>\n<p>Linked data has announced another interesting initiative, funded by the EU, in the area of the linked geo web.\u00a0 The project is called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/geoknow.eu\/Welcome.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Geo Know<\/a>&#8220;, and also has an associated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/geosemweb\/\">Community group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More work on RWW on distributed social identity and web apps, and some impressive demos.\u00a0 Some discussions on ACLs and some great demos have left us in a position of achieving much of what we set out to do in 2012.\u00a0 One personal thing that I&#8217;m happy about, is that I am now able to make web apps discoverable from my identity (homepage) using a new <a href=\"http:\/\/my-profile.eu\/ns\/socweb.n3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">social web ontology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/wiki\/images\/f\/fe\/Rww-logo-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Communications and Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some discussions on the social read write web has taken place with people from a number of project in the free software movement.\u00a0 In particular, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnu.org\/software\/social\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">GNU Social<\/a> have said they are open to implementing read write web standards work, provided that someone can do an integration.\u00a0 A new system, <a href=\"https:\/\/gnu.org\/consensus\/manifesto.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">GNU Consensus<\/a> hopes to tie together many existing social net protocols.\u00a0 And <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FreedomBox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">freedombox<\/a> have talked about a unified web interface for tying together your social systems.\u00a0 Look forward to seeing development in that area next year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/06\/rdf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Community Group<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A relatively quiet holiday period still produced some interesting topics.\u00a0 We now have an informal <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/communities\/117835834635423490544?cfem=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">google plus community<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0 Just ping the group is you&#8217;d like an invite.\u00a0 It&#8217;s open to people outside of the CG too.<\/p>\n<p>One of my goals for 2012 has finally come to pass, in that I can now link &#8220;web apps&#8221; from my profile.\u00a0 This allows apps that are designed for the web discoverable from your own profile using the &#8220;webapp&#8221; predicate.\u00a0 An example can be seen <a href=\"https:\/\/my-profile.eu\/view.php?webid=http%3A%2F%2Fmelvincarvalho.com%2F%23me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/odslogin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-207\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/odslogin-300x226.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/odslogin-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/odslogin.png 526w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Applications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Fantastic <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/public-rww\/2012Dec\/0058.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">work<\/a> from Openlink in creating an open source widget that allows users to login via account from WebID, Persona, OpenID, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, Windows Live, WordPress, Yahoo, Tumblr, Disqus, Instragram, Bitly, Foursquare, Dropbox and Github!\u00a0 This widget can be used to deliver the read write web to a huge audience of existing accounts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/future.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-208\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/future-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/future-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/rww\/files\/2012\/12\/future.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Last but not least\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>An enlightening <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/5971328\/the-most-futuristic-predictions-that-came-true-in-2012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">review<\/a> of technologies that have sprung up this year, entitled &#8220;The Most Futuristic Predictions That Came True in 2012&#8221;.\u00a0 The future is here, it&#8217;s just unevenly distributed!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary Wishing all read write web enthusiasts a happy new year!\u00a0 2012 ended with heated debate, at the World Conference on International Telecommunications over ongoing governance of the internet.\u00a0 Concerns had been raised that changes to the current groups, responsible &hellip;
