{"id":55,"date":"2023-04-21T13:31:41","date_gmt":"2023-04-21T13:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/nordic-accessibility\/?p=55"},"modified":"2023-06-27T18:48:45","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T18:48:45","slug":"work-group-accessibility-in-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/nordic-accessibility\/2023\/04\/21\/work-group-accessibility-in-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Work Group: Accessibility in Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Work Group Facilitator:<\/strong> Tobias Christian Jensen &lt;<a href=\"mailto:tcj@siteimprove.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">tcj@siteimprove.com<\/a>&gt;<br><strong>Slack channel:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/w3ccommunity.slack.com\/archives\/C04CW8854RE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/w3ccommunity.slack.com\/archives\/C04CW8854RE<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has discussed adding accessibility to university curriculums but found this a big and challenging task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, we decided to start out by providing guest lecturing about accessibility to schools and gaining insight into what knowledge schools lack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has created a list of schools, determining interest, and potentially arranging interviews with schools: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1z98A6R0WRmCqjnOZ0EzYJCqz1rWufJZVNuvZYmBpsCE\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Higher Education in Nordic Countries (Google Docs)<\/a> The next step is to contact these schools to hear if they would be willing to be interviewed about challenges for getting accessibility on the curriculum, and determine whether they&#8217;d be willing to pay for guest lecturers coming to talk about accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has also published a survey for designers, developers, and others to gauge the general level of accessibility knowledge and training received: <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/rLGJJE4XVixYup96A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Accessibility Survey (Google Forms)<\/a> Please share far and wide with your network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action items for our next meeting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review initial survey responses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss responses from the schools that have gotten back to us after we contact them.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Then, we will add contact information for each school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then, we will clear individual schools&#8217; interests in having lectures on accessibility and determine if they are willing to pay for guest lectures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We also plan to create a reusable presentation with a script\/notes for guest lecturers to minimize workload.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bonus: Potentially get in contact with employer panels that exist in university structures to push universities to focus more on accessibility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For anyone interested in joining some of our meetings, you can let the Work Group Facilitator know, tell us in a comment here, or tell us in the Work Group Slack channel, and we will make sure to add you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Work Group Facilitator: Tobias Christian Jensen &lt;tcj@siteimprove.com&gt;Slack channel: https:\/\/w3ccommunity.slack.com\/archives\/C04CW8854RE The group has discussed adding accessibility to university curriculums but found this a big and challenging task.
