{"id":864,"date":"2026-07-06T19:04:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T19:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/music-notation\/?p=864"},"modified":"2026-07-06T19:04:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T19:04:24","slug":"mnx-specification-working-group-meeting-july-6-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/music-notation\/2026\/07\/06\/mnx-specification-working-group-meeting-july-6-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"MNX Specification Working Group meeting: July 6, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Myke was unable to attend this meeting due to travel commitments, so only Adrian and Daniel were in attendance for this session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dynamics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We agreed to expand the number of dynamic levels from <em>ppp<\/em>&lt;-&gt;<em>fff<\/em> to <em>pppppp<\/em>&lt;-&gt;<em>ffffff<\/em>, to match MusicXML and the range of glyphs provided in SMuFL (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#521<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For accent-dynamic, we agreed that we would use the same dynamic levels as an immediate dynamic, with two enumerations for prefix and suffix, allowing you to specify a prefix of <em>s<\/em>, <em>r<\/em> or nothing<em> <\/em>and a suffix of <em>z<\/em> or nothing. (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#521<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We agreed that we would add an optional ID \u2013 for now called <code>visuallyContinues<\/code> \u2013 that specifies a previous dynamic that should be considered as linked for the purposes of alignment (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#521<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We revisited how we handle <em>fp<\/em> dynamics and propose that we remove <code>attackValue<\/code> and instead encode them as accent-dynamics, with a new <code>residualValue<\/code> value to specify that the dynamic level continues as <em>p<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/522\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#522<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To accommodate a gradual dynamic that ends on a different staff, we will add <code>endStaff<\/code> to dynamic group, using the staff number (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/523\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#523<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measure repeats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We haven&#8217;t had any community feedback on the proposal for measure repeats (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/w3c-cg\/mnx\/issues\/520\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#520<\/a>), so Adrian plans to go ahead and add this to the spec as-is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next meeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next MNX specification working group meeting is scheduled for <strong>Tuesday 28 July 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Myke was unable to attend this meeting due to travel commitments, so only Adrian and Daniel were in attendance for this session.
